When Carl Schlab, Archer
City’s representative in the coun-
ty spelling bee, put two “l’s” in
holiday, it came as no surprise to
his mother, Mrs. Lawrence Sch-
lab of Scotland.
Mrs. Schlab said afterwards
that young Carl had been mis-
spelling the word ever since he
started practicing for the bee.
“Even on the way over here
he misspelled it several times,’
she said. “I was just hoping they
wouldn’t give that word to him.’’
It must be confusing having a
town nearby spelled Holliday,
but we would imagine that Carl
will never misspell the word
again.

will be one of the most unusual
polital years on record before it
ends.

They got to talking about ways
to cut down the cost of the an-
nual Broiler Show at the Cham-
ber of Commerce board of di-
rectors meeting Tuesday morn-
ing and W. W. Dorris came up
with the idea of chamber mem-
bers picking the chicken them-
selves. The idea is to still get
as many youngsters who so desire
to enter the show and still not
lose too much money.
Dorris suggested that sev-
eral chamber members could get
some hot water and nimble fin-
gers and cut down the expenses
of the show.
About that time someone sug-
gested that the chamber mem-
bers just have a chicken picking
contest themselves afterwards.
That’s about the time President
Roy Alsup threw the thing into
committee. If the chicken pick-
ing part doesn’t end there we
want to volunteer to be judge of
the event. That would sure beat

The Broiler Show will be held

nite date to be anounced soon.
Baby chicks will be given to all
boys and girls wanting to par-

of arrangements.
The show works this way. The
boys and girls apply for the
chicks and are given, absolutely
free, a number of chicks to raise.
On show day they enter the
chickens in competition and jud-
ging is held. Each contestant
then returns a small number of
chickens to the Chamber of Com-
merce. and these are sold to
help pay for the cost of the show.
Roger Paulk and Graham Ball

the directors and asked that the
park site leased to Archer Coun-
