“Guest night” was observed by
the Amity Club last Friday when
the members and their guests
met in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Slack. Outstanding feature
of the meeting was a talk by
Judge Graham B. Purcell, Jr., of
Wichita Falls.
Mrs. W. H. Taylor, club presi-
dent, welcomed the guests.
Judge Purcell, introduced by
Mrs. J. W. Harvey, recounted
many of the problems encounter-
ed daily in his work. He cited
family troubles, broken homes,
delinquent children, and teen-
age gangs as the most common
problems, and told what he did
in an effort to help solve them.
In closing he answered questions
asked by the members. A gift
of appreciation was presented to
him by Mrs. Taylor.
Co-hostesses with Mrs. W. B.
Ray were Mrs. Harvey and Mrs.
A. J. DeMoss. Floral arrange-
ments of white and yellow ’mums
graced the tea table, while gladi-
oli and camellias were used
throughout the party rooms.
Mrs. Taylor presided at the
silver tea service.
Special guests included Judge
and Mrs. Graham Purcell, Wich-
ita Falls, Reverend and Mrs. Lin-
ley Vowell and Mr. and Mrs. A.
C Wallace, Archer City.

The next Amity meeting will
be in the home of Mrs. W. C.
Harrell on Friday, Apr. 1.

Cancer Unit Has
Business Meeting
Archer County Unit, American
Cancer Society, met this week
at the Lions Club building for
a business session ^nd the show-
ing of a film, “Crusade”, by
Mrs. Howard Lyles, cancer edu-
cation chirman.
Mrs. Luke Kirkland, Unit pre-
sident, called the meeting to
order and Mrs. Pauline Patrick
called the roll of the board of
directors. Chairmen present made
their respective reports.
Attending were Mmes. Lucille
Mosley, Charles Lough, Jack
Robertson, Pauline Patrick, How-
ard Lyles, Frank Borgman. WT.
R. Kreiter, Lillian Birdwell;
Messrs. Monte Moore and Bill
Neimeyer; and two visitors, Miss
LeAnn Kirkland and Mrs. Thel-
ma Hilbers.
Camp Fire Board
Talks Plans for
Nat’l Convention
Members of the Archer City
District Camp Fire Board held
their regular monthly meeting
Thursday night in the district
court room.
Main item of business for con-
sideration was a training school
for the attending group. Mrs. Jo
Dombroski, Wichita Falls, field
director for the district, gave the
instructions. She emphasized the
interrelation of each committee
with every other committee
under which the Camp Fire or-
ganization operates. Various com-
mittees explained were: training,
adult membership, camping,
group organization, program,
finance, nominating, public re-
lations, and personnel.
Mrs. Coe Ellis, ardent Camp
Fire worker and member of the
area board, gave an enthusiastic
report about the forthcoming
National Conference of Camp
Fire Girls who will be celebrating
their 50th anniversary Nov. 1 in
New York City at the Commo-
dore Hotel. Mrs. Ellis explained
that a chartered bus will be
taking a load of interested parties
and leaders to the convention
from Region 4 of which Archer
City is a part. In the event sev-
eral from here may wish to make
the trip Mrs. Ellis stated that

A Duplicate Bridge party spon-
sored by the Legion Auxiliary
for the benefit of the Archer City
Swimming Pool Fund was held
at the Legion home on St. Pat-
rick’s Day, March 17.

and for $200 the one-week tripi
can be made.
It was voted to set a goal by
which some sort of program or
project can be carried out to
raise money to pay at least half
the expenses of two to go from
here, or more, if money can be
made available.
George Gaulden displayed a
five-gallon bird feeder. He stated
he can obtain as many of the
feeders as the groups may wish
to put out in keeping with their
program on “Conservation of
Wildlife.” Each Camp Fire group
plans to set up two or more.
Besides Mrs. Dombroski and
Mrs. Ellis, others attending the
meeting were Mrs. J. P. Eckstine.

Lemore, Mrs. B. M. Atchley, Mrs.
E. T. Bledsoe, Mr. and Mrs.
George Gaulden. Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Wylie, and Mrs. W. J. Mc-
Murtry.
Just because a man is a good
sport does not necessarily mean
he is a good man.
The “Luck of the Irish” was
present, both as to the weather
and the attendance. Eight tables
of enthusiastic players enjoyed
the games from 10 a m. until
2:30 o’clock p m.
Mrs. Joe Don Carlos, well-
known director of duplicate, and
bridge teacher of Wichita Falls,
acted as director and instructor
for the affair.
*t 12 o'clock a piping-hot
lunch and coffee was served by
Mrs. Trudy Chaney, Auxiliary
president, and Mrs. Emma Han-
nah. Coffee was served through-
out the party hours.
Winners in the games were as
follows: North-South, Mrs. W. C.
Young and Mrs. Jim Wilson, first;
Mrs. Hap Burkett and Mrs.
George Gaulden, second; Mrs.
Charles McDaniel and Mrs. Don
Small, third, all from Archer
City. East-West winning pairs:
Mrs. Clois Cornelius and Mrs.
Caroline Kunkel, first; Mrs. Ada
Montgomery and Mrs. Inez Strib-
ling, second; all of Throckmor-
ton: Mrs. Z. T. Burkett and Mrs.
O. M. Wylie, Archer City, third.
A similar benefit party featur-
ing duplicate bridge is planned
for Thursday, March 31, same
time, same location.
All bridge players, and those
w ishing to learn bridge are in-
vited and urged to be present.
