BRECKENRIDGE STEPHENS COUNTY TEXAS iMONDAY JULY 16 1928"

OF LATE CRIME
Says Others Helped In Plan
To Bring Peace To
The Family
BISMARCK Mo. July 16.P
Ada Biggs 10-year-old high school
graduate was In tho county Jail at
Farmington today after police said
she had admitted killing her step-
father William Silas Simpson ga-
rage owner and mechanic.
With the girl wcro her mother
Mrs. William Simpson and an
uncle Oscar Grecnwahl who police
said confessed they had loaded and
cocked the shotgun with which the
girl had shot hir stepfather.
The girl who was graduated from
the Bismarck high school this
spring said she her mother and
uncle had planned to do away with
Simpson "to bring peace into the
family." County officers would not
disclose the nature of tho trouble
In the Simpson home but said quar-
rels had been frequent.
According to stories of trio
Grecnwahl and Mrs. Simpson load-
ed a shotgun and gave It to the
girl. They cocked the weapon be-
cause she was unfamiliar with fire-
arms Ada was then sent outsldo whllo
Mrs Simpson and Grecnwahl raised
a window. They managed to get
Simpson unsuspectingly before the
open window where ho was shot In
tho head by his stepdaughter.
Offer Premiums
For Wine Barrels
HAVRE France. July 10.f
The lower Seine was closed to navi-
gation until further notice today
because of the danger to ships' pro-
peller from 0000 barrels of wine
adrift from the French steamer
Moghrcb Acsa The vessel coming
from Algiers went aground in the
estuary near Monflcur
Tho underwriters were offering a
premium of four dollars a barrel to
person retrieving the wine.
The ship was stated to be a total
loss together with tho rest of tho
cargo which consisted of wheat and
sulphate. The cargo was estimated
to be worth nearly a million dol-
lars. Taxable Totals
Given for Texas
AUSTIN July 10. (? Taxablo
values of property in Texas totnled
$307540900 Monday In a prelimi-
nary estimate prepared by Comp-
troller S. H. Terrell for use of tho
State Automatic Tax Board which
was to meet later In tho day to
fix the tax rato for next year. Last
year's valuation was $3808418000.
An expert on International law
said that it offered no hindrance to
a formal Inquiry Into the Noblle
expedition but that difficulties of a
political nature might be encoun-
tered. He suggested that Sweden
might propose a Norwegian trial
of some sort since tho Spltrbergen
archipelago Is under Jurisdiction of
Norway.
It was thought by others how-
ever that such an Investigation
would be hard to arrange as tho
Jurisdiction of any country could
only be vaguely defined. It was
pointed out that Dr. Malmgren had
been left to perish In a sort of
"no man's land" and thus no coun-
try would have a clearly-defined
right to command a Jurldlclal in-
quiry. General Nobllo sent i message
to Stockholm saying that he had
no misunderstanding with Dr.
Malmgren. Ho asserted that rela-
tions of the whole party were at
all times frank and cordial.
