H-D COUNCIL MEETS
The Home Demonstration Council
met Friday, Jan. 20, at 2 p. m. in
the district court room and the fol-
lowing officers were installed for the
year: Mrs. Jack Robertson, Mankins,
council chairman; Mrs. John Swen-
son. Archer City, secretary-. Mrs. Lee
Spro’t, Archer City, treasurer; Mrs.
Virgil Hawkins. Archer City, report-
er.
Judge Strawn and Dan Powell were j
present and asked the H-D clubs of!
the county to do all possible to heln
in the March of Dimes drive now in
progress.
Mrs. Swenson read rules for coun-
ty club officers; same were veted on
and approved.
The marketing chairman has re-
ceived new samples and prices for
the feather satin that we ordered
last year. The price is 90 cents per
yard and a selection of colors is
available.
The reading lists were given out
and we were requested to buy and
read at least three of the books list-
ed. i
Miss Bonrie Cox. of A. & M. Col-
lege. gave a training school for club
officers before the council met. Mrs.
W. S. Ikard gave a T. H. D. report
■and read the T. H. D. A. recommenda-
tion.? for the year's work.

for election of officers with Mrs.
James W. Harvey as hostess. Mrs.
G. B. Purcell was named president for
*he ensuing year with Mrs. W. D.
'Wilson retiring. Mrs. John Fall suc-
ceeds Mrs. Purcell as vke-president;
Mrs. Fred Boyd succeeds Mrs. Fall
as ^secretary; and Mrs. A. W. Sim-
mers was elected as treasurer. The
above-mentioned will act on the '50-
'51 executive committee with Mmes.
W. D. Wilson and James W. Harvey
who succeed Mmes. R. O. Andrews
■and J. L. O'Keefe on that committee.
Following tihe business session. Mrs.
A. J. DeMoss. as leader, gave a de-
lightful resume of the Natchez Pil-
grimage. it? famed old Southern
homes and their handsome furnish-
ings and surroundings, taking her en-
tranced audience through Linden Hall,
Stanton Hall. Greenleevvs. Richmond,
Longwood. Rosalie, Parsonage and
Twin Oaks.

The Methodist WSCS met in reg-
ular session Monday fer a program
on “The *World Must Learn to Read.”
Mrs. A. J. Morris, leader, introduced
Mrs. L. N. Peyton who discussed the
topic. “We Discover The Illiterate-,
and How to Help Them." Mrs. D. M.
Harris explained how literacy works
and Mrs. Virgil Seay closed the dis-
cussion with “Literacy as Evangel-
ism.”
During the business session, an-
nouncement wqp made to the effect
hat a study on “Women of the
Bible” will begin next Monday at
which time Mrs. Erneet Whittaker of
Jackabcro, will review the book.

Claude Morrison. Jr., was a pa-
tient fr.~m Wednesday to Saturday of
last week in the OIney hospital. The
younger Mcrrison, little Barry, was
also hospitalized with cold .from
Thursday night to Saturday a. m.
W. R. Kreiter and two young
daughters, Carolyn and Billie Maggie,
Megirgel, were Archer City and
News office visitors Tuesday after-
noon. They were en route home from
Henrietta where Kreiter’s sister, Mrs.
Dan Sehaffner, underwent surgery
earlier in the day.
