Hunting season opened Satur-
day with a serious accident!
Freddie Gaza way accidentally
shot his brother, Dennis, both
sons of Loyd Gazaway. He was
shot in the shoulder and was
taken to the Hondo Hospital and
then on to the Nix Hospital
where he is in intensive care.
ITe was given 10 pints of blood
but is doing better on this Mon-
day morning.
Mike Cornelius Is spending a
15 day leave at home with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Cornelius. He has been in Ten-
nessee but is assigned to D.R.F.
31st Squadron in Norfolk, Vir-
ginia. He and his parents went
to Mountain Home one day last
week to visit Mr. and Mrs. Doyle
Cornelius who are employed on
the Y. O. Ranch.
Mr. Fmmette Wilson is still in
the Uvalde Hospital following
surgery hut is getting along fine.
Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Massey
visited him Sunday.
The coldest weather of the sea-
son blew in Sunday with the
temporaiure dropping under 40
degrees ''Monday morning and
colder on Tuesday. Rain of less
than an inch fell before the
norther came.
A contract has been awarded
to J. R. Davenport to build the
new Utopia Post Office building.
It will be across the street from
the Redden Mercantile. The
building is expected to be fin-
ished in the spring of 1969.
Mr. and Mrs. John Harp had
as visitors over the week-end his
brother and a nephew, also a
friend of the nephew from Long-
view. The boys each killed a
deer while here.
Visitors in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Tra Reavis over the
week-end were Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Reavis, Ben • and Ray
Reavis, Sam and Tim Dodge, Mr.
Gil land a friend of Ben’s, all
from San Antonio.
Mrs. Carmen Reavis from Bear
River City, Utah, her son, Pat,
from Campwood, her daughter,
Mrs. Bill Stillwell and baby from

hunters. He killed a six point
buck.

Mr. and Mrs. Amos Weed re-
turned Sunday from a trip to
New Mexico with a load of bay.
Sorry to report Mrs. Clyde
(Thelma) Flam was taken to
Peterson Hospital last week and
was vpry siek for several days,
but at last report is doing better.

my recent illness.

food, and many other thoughtful
gestures were greatly appreciat-

Mrs. Gene Burns
Mrs. Geneva Love of San An-
tonio spent the past two weeks
visiting her sisters, Mrs. Mattie
Mayfield, Mrs. Meda Bauerlein
and brother, -J. C. Collins and
wife. Ewingw-Love came up Sun-
day and his mother, Mrs. Love,
returned to San Antonio with
him.
We are sorry to learn Mrs. M.
V. Faris is still a patient in
Peterson hospital in Kerrville
but it is hoped she may return
home this week.
Mrs. Lillian Kingery of San
Antonio spent the week-end with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Lackey, while her husband had
gone hunting.
Mrs. J. Damon McDonald Of
Colorado Springs, Colorado, and
her mother, Mrs. Monroe Wier,
of Bandera visited in the home of
Mrs. McDonald’s brother and
son Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wier,
Sunday.
Charlie Keese and son, Ken-
neth, and his brother-in-law of
Denton came down and enjoyed
hunting on the Keese place the
first few days of the season.
Kenneth will stop hunting any
day to tell .you about that new
little baby son.
HUNTERS ARE INVITED
On November 16, all cold hunt-
ers and anyone else are invited
to the Medina School Cafeteria
for a chicken and dumpling din-
ner with green beans, Jello, salad,
coffee and tea, and cake for
dessert for only $1.25.
Remember, November 16. The
time: 11 n.m. to 0 pm. All

MRS. WILLIAMS IS IN
THE HOSPITAL
We are sorry to report Mrs.
Robert Williams is a patient in
Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital
in Kerrville. She has many
friends here who hope she will
soon he well again and able to
return home.

We extend sincere sympathy to
the family of Mrs. Clem Haun
at the death of her beloved
mother, Mrs. Alfred Schandua, of
Fredericksburg.
Mrs. Schandua passed away
Friday, November 8, 1968, at
7:15 p.m.
Mrs. Schandua was horn at
Grapetown, a community near
Fredericksburg, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Doehhler.
She was 74 years of age at the
time of her death. She was a
member of Bethany Lutheran
Church of Fredericksburg.
Tn 1916 she was happily mar-
ried to Alfred Schandua. He
preceded her in death in 1958.
Funeral services were conduct-
ed Sunday afternoon, November
10, at 3 p.m. from Beckmann
Funeral Homo in Fredericksburg
with interment in the Greenwood
Cemetery. Rev. Wolf, pastor of
Mrs. R. L. Walker of San An-
tonio spent several days this
week here with her mother, Mrs.
Roland Thallman, and Mr Thall-
man at their pretty home in Ban-
dera Estates.
TRIPLE BIRTHDAY PARTY
On October 29th Mrs. Amos
Weed and her daughter, Clara,
surprised her mother, Mrs. John
Reed, with a birthday supper and
at the same time, Mrs. Reed’s
sister, Mrs. R. W. Faris, and her
great nephew, George Reed Car-
penter, Jr. Mrs. John Reed' and
Geo. Jr., birthday was the same
day. October 29th. Mrs. R. W.
Faris' being on ' November 3rd.
Those who helped them to en-
joy the day were: Mr. and Mrs.
Pete Reed of Bandera. Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Lackey, Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. Reed Carpenter, Sr., and
son Nickev, and Geo Jr. Mr.
and Mrs. Wig Pierce and Bobby
Ann, Mr. Manuel Faris and son,
Ned, of Medina. Mrs, Loma

PARTY
This year our regular month-
ly Pack Meeting date came on
Hallowe’en, so the Den Leaders
decided to have a Hallowe'en
party for the Cub Scouts and
their families, and a big time
was enjoyed by all. They braved
the “Spook House,’’ then were
entertained with lively skits by
Dens 1. 2, and 4. After a parade
of Cub Scouts in their costumes,
the youngsters bobbed for apples
in a tub or on a string, fished
at the Fish Pond, played Ring-
Toss Games, and ate refresh,
mynts of popcorn balls, cookies
and punch, furnished by some
of their mothers. The Scout Hut
was appropriately decorated for
the occasion and most of the dec-
orations were made by the Scouts
themselves at their den meetings.

Funeral service* for Mr*. Alvin
(Gladys) Lux, of Rt. 10, Box
121, San Antonio, were conduct*
ed Tuesday, November 6, 1968,
at 9:15 am. from Zoeller Fun-
eral Home Ghapel at 10 a.m. at
St. Joseph Catholic Church at
Honey Creek, with Rev. Leopold
officiating Rosary was recit-
ed at Zoeller Funeral Home in
New Braunfels at 7:30 p.m. Mon-
day. November 4 Burial was in
the Honey Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gus Soell, Jr.,
Howard Elsworth, Ira Schmidt,
Charlie Dugosh, Benno Lux, Jr.,
fMl and Finder Elsworth.
Mrs Lux was critically injur-
ed October 23, 1968, in an auto
accident. She died from injuries
received on Saturday. November
2, 1968. in the Methodiat Hos-
pital in San Antonio.
Mrs. Lux was born March 19,
1916, in Kendall County, the
daughter of C. L. Elsworth and
Marinda Pile Elsworth, of Ban-
dera.
On January 25, 1933, she was
happily marriage to Alvin Lux
at Honey Creek.
She had been a resident of
San Antonio for 27 years. She
was a member of St- Joseph's
Catholic Church, Honey Creek,
and the Woman's Altar Society,
Survivors are one daughter,
Mrs, Robert Thomas, of Grand
Too, Illinois; three sons, Alvin
I.ux, Jr., Houston, Phillip L. Lux,
New Braunfels, and Harry L Lux
of Buiverde; sisters, Mrs. Frank
Borge of Califoriin, Mrs. J. F.
Schmidt of New Braunfels, Mrs.
A. G. Treff of San Antonio, Mrs.
Henrietta Krurkemeyer and Mrs.
