Petitions
Delivered
Archer County Postmaster
Allene Anderson delivered
petitions containing 422
signatures for home mail
delivery in Archer City to
the sectional Center Director
in Fort Worth Tuesday. The
signatures had been affixed
to the petitions which have
been on display in Archer
City businesses since last
Wednesday.
Five hundred signatures
was the goal, but Chamber
of Commerce officers indica-
ted in a letter to Bounds that
several hundred additional
signatures could easily be
obtained by a door-to-door
canvas if necessary.
The petitions will hopefully
prompt the U.S. Postal
Service to conduct a survey
to determine the feasibility
of home delivery service in
Archer City. Information as
to the possible survey was
not yet available late
Tuesday afternoon.

All members were present
at the Holliday Gty Council
meeting and an agreement
was made to give pay raises
to employees who had been
employeed with the city for
six months or more.
Raises will bring the hourly
figures for the following to:
Lavern Slatten, *4.59; Cyn-
thia Flowers, $4.25; Don
Stewart, SS.50; Ray Prater,
$4.50; Don Wadsworth,
$4.50; and Amos Teafatiller,
$4.75.
Council tabled the appoint-
ment of Fire Marshall until
further publicity can be
given to the fact that the
position is open. Jack
Monroe, a Holliday fireman
had requested that appoint-
ment.
Civil Defense Melvin Bills
reported that the location
chosen for the siren did not
meet specifications with the
company which will install
them. A change of location
will cost an additional $1125.
The City Council voted to
pay the extra cost.
A change in the date for the
public tax hearing was made
because several citizens had
reported that they were not
informed of the October 23,
meeting, so a new meeting
has been set for October 28,
at 7:30 at the Holliday City
Hall.
Fire Chief Glenn Wood
reported that several fire
plugs needed repairs, and
also asked that the City
Council purchase a set of air
tanks. The air tank matter
was tabled.
A twelve year old Scotland
youth is dead as the result of
an apparent tragic accident
in his home late Monday
evening. Ricky Lynn Vieth
was found by his father,
older brother, and his
brother's girl friend at 11:30
p.m. He was hanging from
a rope which had been
attached to a steel beam.
Frank Vieth, Jr„ his oldest
son and his son's girl friend
had left young Ricky at 6:30
enroute to the Vieth Marine
Sales location in Wichita
Falls.
Archer County Deputy
Sheriff Calvin Deere con-
ducted the investigation.
Justice of the Peace Andy
Roewe pronounced Vieth
dead at the scene. Deere's
report indicates that, at the
time of filing, the death
appeared to be accidental.
That report states that
apparently the victim had
climbed on top of a built-in
closet near where he had
attached the rope onto the
steel beam. It also appears
that at the time he placed
the rope around his neck he
may have accidentally slip-
ped and fell, therefore
breaking his neck. The
