annual Rattle Snake Round-
up of April 3, 4, and 5 which

THIS 'N' THAT
by Ruby L. Robertson
Most of us are more
familiar with the painting,
The Last Supper, than we
are with true meaning of
The Lord’s Supper or Holy
Communion. The first
supper was to observe the
Jewish Passover, as Jesus
met in the upper room with
His apostles, just before His
trail and crucifixion.
After the Resurrection, His
followers, many of them
ordinary working people,
met in the homes to share
the Christian fellowship and
their common great posses-
sion, Our Lord and Savior.
In some of his early
writings, the close con-
nections between Holy Com-
munion anri work is explored
by Rev. Mike Daves, former
pasta t of the HoHicUy
Methodist Church.
The Rev. Daves writes,
"Are Holy Communion and
work not as far apart as east
and west? Work is soiled
and smudged and has to do
with gold. Holy Communion
is served on a white cloth,
quietly and solemnly in a
church. But life cannot be
divided clearly into secular
and sacred categories, h
comes to us all mixed
together.
The symbols of The Last
Supper, bread and wine, are
parts of God’s creation that
must be worked on by man,
for without man’s labor
there would be neither.
Work, like communion, is
sacred and when we realize-
this, life will take on a new
dimension.”
Some of these same
thoughts may have been in
the mind of Leonardo
DaVinci in 1497 when he
painted The Last Supper.
DaVinci himself was a
worker supreme; as a artist,
architect, musican, botan-
cist. engineer and inventor.
Some of his later paintings
include the Mona Lisa.
We come to The Lord’s
Supper in love and charity
with our neighbors, to share
the common possession,
Jesus Christ, whose love for
mankind empowers us to
love our brothers as
ourselves. The sacrament
requires the participation of
people who accept the
challenge of carrying His
love into a working world.

cane and pineapple and
