Best on Slippery Road
Good ab are four wheel brakes,
the engine is still better on slip-
pery surfaces. That in why taking
:he foot off the gas before reach-
ling a stopping ^piuaoe is (better
than applying the brakes sharply
just upon reaching it.
Hints to Drivers
Cramps in the right leg on a
long drive are due to the use of
•.he foot on the aeceleraltor. Use
the hand control occasionally.
It usually saves gas and your
brake linings Jo coast over the
tops of hills. Most motorists
drive unnecessarily fast near the
top and then use their brakes ex-
cessively on the down grade.
A modern car will accelerate
uest from a ,£ow speed at half
throttle. Don’t press down on lihe
accelerator all the way.
High speed commercial vehicles
iare hard to pass on the straight-
jaway. Skilled drivers wait , for
the opportunity of a hill.
Baggage tied to the rear of the
car will work over to the left
because of the fact that the car
travels on the right of the road
and makes turns more sharply to
the right than to the left.
Shifting Gears Quietly
(The clashing of transmission
gears is the result of hasty shift-
ing and not giving the clutch the
chance to throw the gears into
neutral. With practice the driver
rocn can acquire the habit of hes-
•ating a fraction as he shifts
rom (one gear tp another. To
attain quiet changes of speed onlp
takes a little experimenting to be-
come acquainted with each indnvi-
uual car. Once found, howeve;
the driver will know tjhe exact
i cation to hesitate and will change
gears with no more noise than a
sllhht click. If the shift its made
calmly and deliberately, without
either rushing or hesitating dur-
ing the shift, it will be found easy.
In most cars the shift from first
to seond should be comparatively
slow, while from second to high
can be made fairly fast.
Riding the Clutch.,
..Riding the clutch is an easy
habit to get into, but a hard one
to get out of. Become accoustom-
■cd to slowing the car down with
the use of Lhe break only. /This
saves the clutch ani also gives one
better ontrol of the car in wet
weather.

or removed, all excavations shall be
refilled and thoroughly tamped, and

ed by the City Council. Should
said grantee fail or refuse to re-
store and replace said pavements,
sidewalks and excavations, within a
reasom 'Me time, then the same may
be replac 1 and restored by the City
at the expense of said grantee,
which expense shall include attor-
ney’s fees, in event it shall become
necessary for said City to bring
suit to recover the money so ex-
pended by it.
(b) In the construction, repairing
and operating of said gas system,

ble and proper precaution to avoid
