' "baby boy, Calin Janies Neill, born Novembei 15, 2000 at Hillcrest
Hospital.

Colonel Jose Eisma
Colonel Jose Eisma, a West
physician and a member of the
State Health Services Detach-
ment, Texas Army National
Guard, is retiring after 28 years
of military service including ser-
vice in the active U.S. Army.
His assignments ranged from
a medical officer in a U.S. Army
hospital at Fort Sill, Oklahoma
to Chief Medical Officer or State
Surgeon of the Texas Army Na-
tional Guard in Austin. He also
served as medical company com-
mander in the 49th Armored
(Lone Star) Division, Texas Army
National Guard, Division Sup-
port Command Surgeon, Divi-
sion Surgeon or Chief Physician
of the 49th Armored Division.
His military awards and
badges consist of the Meritori-
ous Service Medal, Army
Achievement Medal, Army Re-
serve Components Achievement
Medal (five awards), National
Defense Service Medal (two
awards), Armed Forces Reserve
Medal (two awards), Army Re-
serve Components Overseas
Training Ribbon (two awards),
Army Service Ribbon, Texas
Adjutant General's Individual
Award Ribbon, Expert Field
Medical Badge and Sharpshooter
Badge for Rifle.
In a ceremony in historic
Camp Mabry in Austin, Colonel
Eisma was given the Lone Star
Distinguished Service Award,
the Army Meretricious Service
Medal (second award), a framed
personal letter from Governor
George W. Bush and a Texas
State flag in a case. A bouquet of
yellow roses was given to his
wife, Lenora.
Colonel Eisma attributes his
success in the Guard to the tre-
mendous support of his wife,
Lenora and his children.
Alyssa Marie Roznos
Alyssa Marie Roznos cel-
ebrated her fourth birthday with
a party at McDonald's in Hills-
boro on November 4. Her actual
birthday is November 6.
Helping Alyssa celebrate her
birthday was her big sister,
Amanda and little sister,
Rebecca; her mom and dad, Gene
and Michelle; grandma, Jeanne
Roznos and some cousins, aunts
and uncles. Alyssa had a lot of
her friends from Ronda's Daycare
there, also having lots of fun.
Alyssa would like to thank
everyone for all the gifts she re-
ceived and for making her fourth
birthday so special.
Gabriel Saldana is
baptized in Austin
Gabriel Paul Saldana, son of
Alex and Valerie (Scorza)
Saldana, was baptized at St.
Mary's Cathedral in Austin at 9
a.m. on Saturday, December 9.
The officiating priest was the
Rev. Gerald Smith.
The godparents were Julie
Scorza and Alan Cluke, Jr.
Gabriel's grandparents are
Mario and Evelyn Scorza ofWest
and Ray and Yolanda Viera of
Waco. Great-grandparents are
Joe Kolar of Houston, Elaine
Scorza of San Antonio and
Antonia Saldana of Waco.
Following the baptism, a bar-
becue lunch was held, attended
by a number of relatives and
friends.

Letters to Santa Claus
It is that time again to turn our thoughts to the Christmas
Holidays and the familiar face of Santa Claus bringing cheer to
young and old.
Area youngsters are certainly eager to let Santa know what
they hope to get for Christmas this year. In an effort to help area
children get their wishes to Santa, The West News will publish
their letters to Santa Claus in the newspaper's Dec. 21 issue.
Children are asked to put their name, age and address on the
letter. The Santa Letters can be delivered to The West News
office at 214 W. Oak or mailed to:
