Hits Two Other
Vehicles In Odem
/While Peliar Castro slept at the
wheel of his auto in downtown
Odem Monday morning, the car
collided with two vehicles, one of
which was driven by Deputy
Sheriff .Leon Mertz.'
Damage amounted to approxi-
mately $75 for each auto, Deputy
Mertz estimated. He reported
that Castro, who works all night
at a local cotton gin, had dozed
off to sleep while driving through
the main section of town.

in Houston over the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Peeks and
children returned Sunday night
from Port Arthur where they had
been visiting her sister and1 fam-
ily, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Powers. Mr.
Peeks and Mrs. C. D. Scull had
taken Mrs. Peeks and the children
down the weekend before and
they had remained while. Mr.
Peeks and Mrs. Scull returned to
for a visit la the home of Mrs. L.
J.’a mother, Mrs. Gertrude Cur-
tiss, and to attend the wedding of
her sister, Miss Annette Curtiss

Ernest Correll In Double Ring Rites
zenberger and little Johnny Man-
zenberger of Franklin, Indiana
left Saturday morning to return to
Misa Annette Jean Curtiss,
daughter of Mrs. Gertrude Curtiss, ,
became the bride of Ernest Carl 1
Carrell, son* of Mrs. Ben Carrell of ,
'Odem, in a double ring ceremony
at 8 P! M. Friday, August 3, in the
new Methodist Church with the
pastor Rev. R. R. Heaner perfdr-
ming the ceremony.
The church was decorated with
floor baskets of white gladiolus,
fern and small white blossoms.
The bride chose a street length
dress of aqua organza fashioned on
simple lines with a Peter Pan
color, tiny tucks across the front
of the sleevless bodice that featur-
ed pearl studs down the front.
The skirt was full with a deep
edge of white embrodiery around
the bottom. Her accessories were
white and her corsage was of
white carnations,
Clifton Coonrod, a cousin, gave
the bride away.
Private and Mrs. Bennie Curtiss
served as the attendants.
Mrs. Curtiss wore a street length
dress of gold figured steel blue
with gold accessories and a pink
carnation corsage.
The bride’s mother wore a dress
of brocade slate blue taffeta,
white accessories and a ydiite cor-
nation corsage.
Mrs. D. R. Smith furnished the
wedding music and accompanied
Miss Jamye Whatley who sang,
“I Love You Truly.”
The bride attended the Odem
schools all her life and was a
member of the school band for
four; years, a member of the high
school chorus, girls basketball and
baseball teams, and Homemaking
Club.
The groom spent two and one-
half years in the Naval Seabees
during World War H, and is now
foreman at the Celenese Plant at
Clark wood.
After a short undisclosed wed-
ding trip they will be at home in
Odem.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception was held at .the home of
the bride’s mother, where Mts.
Bennie Curtiss and Mrs. W. W.
Baylor served the beautiful wed-
ding cake and punch to the guests
from the lace laid table centered
with an arrangement of white
gladiolus, fern and small white
blossoms.
Out of town guests included the
bride’s sister, Mrs. L. J. Manzen-
berger nee, Lenora Curtiss, her
husband and daughter, Janice of
Bloomington, Indiana, Mr. and
Mrs. Rudolph Manzenberger and
grandson, Johnny, and daughter,
Miss Alice Manzenberger of Frank-
lin^ Indiana, Private Benjamine,
“Bennie” Curtiss of Fort Sam
Houston, San Antonio, Mr. and
Mrs. O. B. Mock of Corpus Christi,
Mr. and Mrs. Houston Carrell and
children of Annaville, Mr. and
Mrs. George Ramsey and family of
Corpus Christi and a number of
others.

Arrives At Odem
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Daniel and
two children, Sarah Lynn, four
years old and Mary Elizabeth, 2*4
have arrived in Odem to make
their home here where he will be
the director of the school band,
and Mrs. Daniel will teach the first
grade.
He received his Bachelor Degree
from Hendrix College in Conway,
Arkansas, taught four years in
Ganado, and three years in Mc-
Gehee, Ark.
Mrs. Daniel received her degree
from T.S.C.W., Denton and taught
two years in McGehee, Arkansas.
Daniel states that he is anxious
to get the band practice under way
so that the band can render a good
program of music at the first
Roy “Bucky” Fuqua, Jr., arrived
in Odem Saturday from Dallas
their homes after coming to Odem
where lie has been for some time
with his sister, Miss Billie Joyce
Fuqua in the home of their uncle,
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Fuqua. He
will visit his grandmother, Mrs.
Mary Boggua and other relatives
here among them being his sister,
Mrs. Ossie Otria of Venzuela,
South America and her children,
who are also visiting Mrs. Boggus.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Fuqua, Sr., are in Arabia where
his father is employed by an oil
company.
H. B. Sipes went to Kerrville
Friday to bring back the group of
girls attending Mount Wesley the
past week. Those attending were:
Frances Nell Sipes, Ruby Lee
Pyle, Susan Whitten, Pat Voss and
Phyllis Lane.
Little Karen Taylor, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. “Bill” Tay-
lor of Corpus Christi, and grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H.
Green, Sr., submitted to her third
eye operation at the Memorial
Hospital in Corpus Christi Friday.

Rev. Julio Anguiano, pastor of
the local Latin American Baptist
Church and Pedro and Lucio Ville-
real returned Friday afternoon
from Palacios where they attend-
ed the Baptist Encampment the
past week. Rev. Anguiano reports
that 187 were registered as resi-
dent attendants and that there
were always others from near by
towns who came to each services
and classes.
Rev. Roy G. Rader, former pas-
tor of the local Methodist Church,
preached at the morning services
here Sunday.
