In Odem Friday; Gregory Places Second
Aransas Pass' won the U.I.U.
literary events of the grantmar
school division Friday in Odem,
with 45 points. Gregory won sec-
ond place with 29 points; Bonnie
View had '24; Ingleside Grammar
15; Ingleside Elementary 14% and
Bayside 14%.
In the sub-junior girls declama-
tion, Ingleside Elementary won
. First; Portland, Second and Bay-
'*> side Third. Sub-junior boys; Ingle-
Literary events will be held in

Citizens Committee
Meeting Held In
Odem Monday Night
The second'of * series of three
Citizens Committee meetings was
held at the school cafeteria in re-
gards to the question, “Does This
Community Need a High School?”
This is a survey of all schools in
Texas with an enrollment of less
than one hundred vin high school.
The third and last meeting of
the committee will be held at the
cafeteria Tuesday of next week.
Facts brought'out in the Mon-
day night meeting showed that
this community not only needs a
high school, but now has adequate
^teaching staff,’ equipment, build-
ings and ' accredited subjects
maintain above the average high
school. The committee also
brought out the fact that according
to scholastics and the populmion
statistics of the town, for the past
ten years, that the need for a high
school will grow and not decrease
in the next ten years.
The fact was brought out that
the present low enrollment in high
school is due to the fact that when
the Odem school went from an
eleven grade school to the twelve

Texas, and that the Latin Ameri-
cans do appreciate the work being
done in this school.

day afternoon with the University
of Corpus Christi Baptist young
people in charge of the program

Mrs. Green’s sister and mother,
and Miss Betty Frances Lane. Mrs.
Green’s mother, Mrs. I. W. Sims
will return with them Tuesday.
Mrs. W. T. Warren and Mrs. A.
N. Smith attended the “Spend ’Nie
Day” party Sunday given by Mrs.
Archie Parr at the Parr Ranch in
San Diego. There, were fifty six
guests and members Including the
Board Members of the Daughters
of the Republic of Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Schomer re-
turned Sunday night from Dime
Box where they attended the
funeral of her Uncle, Edd Dement,
76, who was buried in Dime Box
Saturday. He died at the home of a
sister in Wingate Thursday. He
was a retired Worker in the smelt-
ing gold and copper mines of
Arizona.

Held Thursdsy
The WSCS of the local Metho-
dist church met at the home of
Mrs. C. D. Scull Thursday with
Mrs. A. T. HightoWer and Mrs.
Scull as hostesses fot the educa-
tional’program and social hour.
Mrs. W. F. Scull was in charge
of the program, with the topic,
“The Light Will Shine in North
Africa.” She used Galatians 6:9-10
for the devotional scripture. Mrs.
Evans S. Butler, Jr., Mrs. 0. A.
Ehlers, Mrs. Wm. Whitley and
Mrs. J. H. Hightower had parts on
the program. Mrs. Floyd Scull
talked on “A Deaconess At Work.”
Following the program a social
hour was enjoyed at which refresh-

held in Sinton. recently. Mrs. Sam
