Harvey Cook, who has been working
with a government surveying gang in
Alabama, returned home Thursday.
Gene Kirtley of the Coast Artillery,

Drew Gillespie passed through here
the first of the week for Goose Creek,
where he will work for an oil ompany.

Sheriff D. E. Goodwin went to San
Antonio Monday morning to see his
brother, Toombs, who is reported ill
at Fort Sam Houston.
Ed Johnson, who ha-s been working
at Rockport, will open a shoe repair-
ing shop in the room west of Feather-
ling’s tailor shop, in the near future.

M. C. Scheble and family of Eagle
Pass were In Sintoft the first of the
week, visiting with friends and look-
ing after business interests.^ They Re-
turned Wednesday.
Rev. E. F. W. Stellhorn of ..he Ex-
ecutive Mission Board of the Luthern
Church, was a guest in the home of
Rev. Fred A. Neumeister several days
this week. Rev.‘ Stellhorn lives in
Columbus, Ohio.

- Mrs. H. T. Elkins and son Roy D.,
are guests of their Sinton friends this
week. The Doctor, who is now an
army physician i at Ellington Field,
Mrs. Elkins reports, is getting along
fine and likes his work there.
, While enroute for Victoria the first
of the week, H. A. Peabody had a
Ford accident, which resulted in a
broken collar bone. It seems that

out of order, and the car turned over
with the above result.
“C. Boscamp of the St. Paul com-
munity wTas here on business Wednes-
day. He reports Ms cotton in good
shape, but says help is scarce. A week
of continued good weather, however,
will permit them to get the crops

Stamp Soiling Contest were en-
tertained with a bathing party on
Thursday afternoon of last week. Af-
Ter enjoying the waves for an hour or
more, a picnic lunch was seized on
the pier, consisting^ sandwitmes, war
cakes and two cases of soda pop.
These boys and girls deserve credit
for the good work they did; having
sold something over three hundred
dollars worth of Thrift Stamps. The
winners in the contest were: Leatrice
Hair, Lyra Haisley, Kirby Sharp, Lee
Pope, Connie Redus, Zazel Scott and
Fannie Easton. Others enjoying the
party were: Leona Redus, Miss
.Mears, Mr. Easton and Mr. and Mrs.
Redus. Cars were furnished by Mr.
Redus and Mr. Easton.—Contributed.

A large and earnest audience was
in attendance at thd union Memorial
services at the Baptist church Thurs-
day forenoon. Rev. White, Rev,
Rhodes, J. G. Cook and W. S-. Vawter
made speeches’ and Rev. Long acted
as master of ceremonies. This meet-1
ing was held in accordance with the
proclamation of President Wilson,
that memorial services should be held
all over our land on that day.- The
national memorial day should be ob-
served every year with appropriate
exercises. ^

years of age since June 5th, 1917, will
have to register on Ju^e 5th, 1918,
for military service. Those who wish
to volunteer now while they can se-
lect their branch of the service, should
do so at once, as after they have reg-
istered they can no longer volunteer.

Edward Mynier, aged 21 years, son
of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Mynier died
Sunday night, May 26, 1918, at the
home of his grandfather, J. H. Mynier,
in Sinton, after about a month’s ill-
ness. Funeral services were held at
the- Sinton cemetery, conducted by
Rev. Thomas, pastor of the Christian
church at .Robstown,
A large number of friends accom-
panied the remains to its last resting
place.
Edward Mynier was well knowi^ in
Sinton, and was well thought of by
all, as he was honest, industrious and
had a very pleasant personality. Such
young men are missed by the entire
community after they have departed
from us.
The . News joins with the many
friends in offering words of condol-
ence to the bereaved family.
