OUR LADY OF
GUADALUPE CHURCH
M.i*'
We sent our finest manhood to pay the price of war on land and sea and in the
air; and it was a great price as many, of us shall always know. But war is a terrible
tragedy unless peace lies beyond its sacrifice and death. We have all had a shqre in
paying for the war, though for many of us it was only a few additional dollars in
taxes. In fact some have profited greatly by the sufferings and heroism of th& dead.
Never.have we had so much money to spend on ourselves and on our families. But we
need to look at the cemeteries of the world to know, the supreme sacrifice that was
called for, that we might be secure and comfortable. It required the giving of life itself
for many a man; and it called for .sorrow and heartache for many a mother and father
around the globe. The war cost enough for some of us.
X he time has come for heroism in the cause of Peace; and it must be shown by
every woman and man in our country. We must oppose with all our might the antag-
onisms that are growirig between peoples; we can substitute understanding and goq’d
will if we will dare to say the truth when we know men are telling falsehoods about
other fellow men. We must become ambassadors of tolerance, and -spokesmen for kind-
ness and generous treatment of every man. Peace dhllfe for more than money; it calls
for courage and well informed effort for making the world into the Kingdom of God.
We must see all men everywhere as our brothers; we must practice democracy which
allows every other man the freedom that we demand for ourselves; we must be Chris-
tian in thought and in speech and in deed; for Jesus of Nazareth is the Prince of Peace.
They who enroll under His leading and join Him in pleading for the Good Time of
world friendship; they who arq willing to suffer for goodness and truth and love; these
are the makers of peace. “Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the
children of God.” • ’
