Two new conservation
plants have been released
to seed growers for use in
range, pasture, and wild-
life plantings.
Larry W. Seymore, dis-
trict conservationist for
the USDA Soil Conserva-
tion Service at Coleman
said the releases are ‘Has-
kell’ sideoats grama and
‘Sabine* illinois bundle-
flower.
'Haskell' sideoats grama
has been tested in more
than 30 plantings across
Texas, Seymore sa%^(t
has a wider adaptation*
than other sideoats grama
strains available commer-
cially, and is especially
adapted to Central and
South Texas. It also has
exceptional rhizome pro-
duction that aids in control-
ling erosion. It is consider-
ed equal or superior for
forage and seed production

cial types.

Maintenance
Needed For
LP-Gas Tank
AUSTIN, TEX., August
5: If you are one of the one
million Texans who depend
on lp-gas for heating, air
conditioning or cooking,
long summer days are a
good time to think about
routine maintenance of
your lp-gas tank.
“Few people realize that
an lp-gas container needs
proper care to last," said
Hugh Keepers, director of
the Liquefied Petroleum
Gas Division of the Rail-
road Commission. “They
are very costly and a few
simple maintenance steps
can save consumers the
coat of replacing their
tanks.”
Start your summer
maintenance by giving
your tank a coat of good
quality, white metal paint.
Aluminum tanks don’t
have to be painted. The
reflective surface helps re-
duce the temperature in
the tank, keeping pres-
sure from building up.
Painting also protects the
container from rust and
corrosion.
Make sure your contain-
er is mounted correctly.
LP-gas tanks should al-
ways be level, above
ground and mounted on a
masonry foundation,
never allow weeds or sand
to collect in the area be-
tween the tank and the
ground. Proper ventilation
keeps moisture from col-
lecting and helps avoid
corrosion.
Never place a tank in-
side or next to a building.
State law requires that
tanks be placed a minimum
of 10 feet from a building.
A licensed lp-gas dealer
can't fill a container that
doesn't meet this require-
ment.
The manufacturer's
nameplate on an lp-gas con
tainer is very important. It
assures the consumer that
the container was designed
to meet safety rules. A
licensed dealer can't fill a
container that doesn't have
this nameplate, and the
information on it, visible.
To protect it from rust and
