The birthday cake was a two-tier
confection. Iced In white, decorated

two pink candles, stood on a musical
cake stand that played "Happy
Birthday." while the honoree open-
ed her gifts.
Individual cakes topped* with one
candle In rose holders, were served
with Ice cream to the guests, who
were entertained with toys during
the party hours.

NEW BAPTIST CIRCLE
ORGANIZES AT HOME OF
MRS. HUGH METCALF
A new circle was organised Wed-
nesday afternoon. January 19, when
a group of women of the First Bap-
tist church met in the home of Mrs.
Hugh Metcalf, 119 Miami.
Mrs Forest Caskey presided and-
led the opening prayer. Mrs. Lester
Ward was elected president Other
officers elected were Mrs. Alvle
Brewer, co-chairman: Mrs. Hugh
Metcalf, secretary-treasurer: Mrs.
Griffith, benevolent chairman; Mrs.
Alvle Blanton. Bible study chalr-
I man; Mrs. T. Lynn Stewart, mis-
sion chairman: Mrs. Claude Alvey,
stewardship chairman. Mrs. Caskey,
community mission chairman: Mrs.
Ellery Kelley, periodical chairman.
•Newman" was the name chosen
for the circle, which Is for a mis-
sionary cm the foreign field. There
are 11 charter members In the new
circle.
Refreshments were served to
members and one visitor, Mrs. Bll-
ton of Brown wood.

Miss Jane Harris, sister of Miss
Mollte Harris of this city, was
man led to Maj H: J. Phillips of thirteenth
.Stephenville, Friday,, January 19,
at 3 pm. in the home of the bride s
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Lane of Stephenville.
The Rev. Smith, Baptist minister,
read the double ring ceremony be-
fore the Improvised altar of tube
roses, and candles. The home was
decorated throughout with arrange-
ments of the same flowers.
The bride given in marriage by
the groom's cousin, Dr. Jim Car-
roll, wore a white wool suit, with
fur trim and carried a white Bible
arranged with white rose buds and
ribbon shower. Miss Virginia Car-
well of Port Worth maid of honor
wore a brown crepe dress, with gold
sequin trim Her corsage was fash-
ioned of talisman roses. Lt. Don
Rogers of Dallas was best man.
Miss Mollie Harris played the
wedding marches, accompanied the
soloist. Miss Virginia McNutt, who
sang "Because" and "Ah, Sweet
Mysteries of Life" playing “Always"
while Dan W. Lane and Jim Car-
roll, Jr., lighted the candles.
An Informal reception was held
following the ceremony. The table
In the dining room was centered
with an arrangement of tube roses
flanked by the two-tier wedding
cake and the silver coffee service.
Mrs, Jim Carroll poured.
Fifty guests were present.
The bride is the daughter of Mr,
and Mrs. Claud M. Harris of Mem-
phis, Texas, who were unable to at-
tend the wedding due to heavy
snows The couple left Immediately
for California where he Is stationed
at an air base.
Mrs. Phillips has visited in Cole-
man many times.

TEXAS POETS AT MEETING
•Texas Poets" was the topic for
study Friday afternoon when mem-
bers of the Self Culture Club met
tn regular session at the library.
Mrs. T. L. Stevens presided. Dur-
ing the business session it was voted
to contribute 35 to the March of
Dimes Pund
Roll call was answered with names
of Texas Poets Mrs D. S Jennings,
program leader, gave the history of
the poet Orace Crowell of Dallas
and read one of her poems. Mrs.
J. A. B. Miller read a paper on
Lexle Dean Robinson of Rising. Star
and read several of her poems

devotional, after which refreshments
consisting of sandwiches, potato
chips, pickles, cookies and hot tea

tive bride's bodk, which was bound
tn white satin and lace. Decorations
for the home featured the bridal
motif and plate favors were valen-
tines on which was written. Lillian
and Len. Games provided entertain-
ment during the hours. Forty guests
called.
Mrs Carpenter is a Civil Service
employee at Camp Bowie. The
groom is In the Army and at this
time Is stationed tn Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, but expects to receive
his discharge soon.

prize which she presented to the
honoree.

shortcake and coffee to club mem-

LES AMIS CLUB
Mrs. Raymond Brookshire carried
ouf the Valentine motif In dec-
orations and appointments when
she entertained with a bridge party
at tlie Taylor Tea Room, Tuesday
afternoon, honoring the Les Amis
club.
Mrs. Tom Sealy won the high
score award, Mrs. Morris Miller won
low, with the prize for bingo going
to Mrs. J. B. McCord. At tea
time a salad course was served.
Guests were Mmes. Sealy, Miller,
McCord, M. T. White, Mike Wright,
A. M. Fischer. Claude Miller, Prank
Rogers, Bill Leach, Ollle Gideon,
Billy Baker, and Mias Doris Miller.

this week of the marriage on De-
cember 17, 1945 of Miss Jean Tid-
well to Jack Price. The wedding was
held in the First Methodist church
in Sallna, Kansas, with Rev. Rob-
ert A. Hunt reading the double
ring ceremony.
Given In marriage by her mother,
Mrs. Marjorie Tidwell, the bride
wore an afternoon dress of white
sheer, embroidery trim, with which
she wore pink and white accessories.
She carried a bouquet of pink rose
buds and baby breath, with ribbon
shower Miss Pauline Rutherford
was maid of honor and Mrs. Belle
Wtllts was matron of honor. Both
wore corsages of pink and fushla
carnations and the bride’s mother
wore a corsage of white carnations.
W C. White of Grand Saline. Texas
was best man.
For going away the bride wore a
winter white wool suit and bruihed
wool coat with pink and white ac-
cessories.
Mrs. White Is a graduate of
Grand Saline high school. She has
been teaching ballet and tap danc-
ing for the post several years and Is
known as an outstanding dancing
teacher. During the war she was
active In USO and Red Cross enter-
tainments.
Mr. Price Is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Price of 300 Vale street,
and are Coleman comity pioneers.
He is a graduate of Santa Anna
high school and attended Howard
Payne college. He was a star on the
football team in both high school
and college. He recently returned
from 27 months overseas, serving
with the 36th Division In the Eur-
opean Theater of Operations. The
couple are now at home on west
Eighth street.

last Friday afternoon, the occasion
being a gift tea. Mrs E. C. Wood-
ward presided over the bride’s book
and Mrs. Rex Haughawaut served
refreshments. Games were conduc-

PROJECT CONTEST
It was voted to solicit subscrip-
tions to the Hollands Magazine as
a money raising project, at a meet-
ing of the Coleman Fire Department
Auxiliary, Thursday evening at the
fire station. The project wtU be put
on as a contest, with Mrs. Bill Pelty
and Mrs. Henry Ward as captains,
the team getting the most subscrip-
tion to be entertained by the losing
team.
Mrs. Woodrow Baxter won the
lucky number for the handkerchief
shower.
