Kiwanis Program
B. J. Joyce- Coleman high school
vocational agriculture teacher,
brought, several members of the,
high school Future Farmers flf Am-
erica chapter to the Kiwanis lunch-
eon Tuesday and presented a pro-
gram on parliamentary procedure
FFA member* who participated
were; Merlin Hairier, Jimmie Hemp-
hill, pave Zirkle, Mart Griffis, Dave
Watson, Raymond McNutt and
Jackie Coleman, The Kiwanis edu-
cation committee was in charge of
the program.
Joyce pointed out. in his intro-
ductory speech, that the Coleman
FFA chapter, to the best of his
knowledge, has the largest mem-
bership of any chapter in Texas,
with 100 members One other club
has the same membership, he says.
E. W Scott presided at the meet-
ing Guests present were: Rev
Compton Riley of Houston, som-ln-
. taw of Dr J F Gaines, C D, Pow-
eB, visiting Klwanian from Ktrks-
vllle, Missouri, Mr Joyce, and the
following Coleman high school gil ls,
who sang two numbers: Frances
Pruitt, Betty Loveless and Ellease
Petty, who were accompanied at the
piano by Marylea Henderson.
B B. Nunley reported on the trip
to Brownwood last Thursday, when
five members of the Coleman Ki-
wmnls club and two boys. Oeorge
Green, Jr,, and Kenneth Vance,
were guests of the Brownwood Ki-
wanis club and presented a pro-
gram.

The question has been asked: “Is
the High School Parent-Teacher ||
Association dead? Is It function-
ing?'1 In conversation with the
president, Mrs. Theo Griffis, new |j
enthusiasm has been (gained Mrs.

association maintains a fairly good
membership, and that other mem-
bers are solicited. All associations
have two membership periods, Sep-
tember 1st to October 31st, then
from that (fate to March 31st. These
dues are used for work entirely In
connection with the school, with
the exception of state and national
affiliation, which amount is sent to
Austin for that purpose.
Never since its organization has
the high school Parent-Teacher As-
sociation failed to enlist interested
members who have endeavored to
earry out the "guiding policies” of
Student Welfare and Parent Educa-
tion. Especially was this commend-
able on the part of the faithful ones
who worked to keep the High School
association in good standing with
the community and the state and
national during the days of World
War. To those parents, especially,
and teachers who attended the
meetings and aided in various ways
much credit Is due One should be,
very proud of the tact that our
place was not vacant when the roll
of schools was called by higher
authorities. This year, a plan is be-
ing carried out to have an organi-
zation which gives the school the
pre-eminence, and working through
the executive committee and the
room representatives, which has
heretofore been the policy, with the
