on the buffet.
The honoree was presented with

members of Capt. Wra Buckner
Chapter D.A.R. entertained at a
luncheon Friday in the club dining
room, Hotel Coleman.
Lighted tapers and floral center-
piece carried out the organization's
colors, red, white and blue. Regent
Mrs. James Padgltt presided, chap-
lain. Mrs C M. Alexander gave the
Invocation. Mrs. Padgitt introduced
the guest speaker, Mr. Wallace
Dingus who made an inspiring talk
on Current World Events, stressing
the importance of the individual's
responsibility in maintaining world
peace, so dearly won in the con-

Miss Claudia Wise was feted on
her birthday Sunday when her
mother, Mrs. Denby Wise of Rock-
wood. entertained with a birthday
dinner in her honor The dinner
was served buffet style, with the
large birthday cake which was em-
bossed in pink and green icing and
topped with candles centering the
table.
Quests were Mr. and Mrs Evan
Wise, of Port Worth, Mr and Mrs
Howard Pearson and children. Mr.
and Mrs. Hilton Wise, Mr. and Mrs

A tea shower at the Oarrest Host-
ess House Monday afternoon was
given to honor. Janice CoHins, bride
elect of Qlenn Burleson of Lubbock.
Hostesses were Mrs. Raleigh McCul-
loch, Mrs. Alex Mayers, Mrs. R. R.
Browning, Mrs. W. T. Jones, Mrs.
Marcus Durham and Mrs. Monte
Gideon.
Mrs. Jones greeted guests at the
door. In the receiving line were
other hostesses, the bride elect, her
mother, Mrs. Clyde Collins, also her
aunt, Mrs Willie Henderson and
Miss Evelyn Sanford
Mrs. John B. Howell ushered the
guests to the register, where Mrs.
Mayers presided. Mrs. Browning and
Mrs. Durham presided over the
room where gifts were on display.
Arrangements of sweet peas In pas-
tel colors and yellow daffodils were
seen at vantage points over the
hostess house The tea table was
centered with a garden hat filled
with the chosen flowers in pastel
colors, flanked by candles in crys-
tal holders. Mrs Ben Taylor and
Mrs A J Black poured. Assisting
in serving were Miss Josephine Gor-
don and Mrs. Jim Monihan. About
75 guests called during the hours.

Jeanes was the scene of a beautiful
Wedding, Tuesday evening at 6
o'clock, when Miss Carlie Currie,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D.
Currie became the bride of Capt.
Harrison L. Saunders, son of Mr.
and Mrs. I. Y. Saunders of San
Marcos.

WITH SURPRISE
BIRTHDAY PARTY
Relatives and friends of O. H.
Kelley surprised him Friday night,
February 22, when they gathered
at his home, in honor of his 71st
birthday. The group brought re-
freshments of salad, sandwiches,
coffee and birthday cake. Appro-
priate games were enjoyed also dur-
ing the evening.
Mr. Kelley came to Coleman coun-
ty when he was five years old and
settled with his parents, seven miles
west of Coleman on the Glen Cove
road, and has lived' in that area
ever since He and Mrs Kelley cele-
brathed their fiftieth wedding an-
niversary last December.
Present for the birthday celebra-
tion Prlday evening were Mr. and
Mrs. R. V. Kelley of San Antonio.

man, Mrs Mable Franklin of Mon-
rovia. Calif.. Charlene Hart of El

The Rev. John J. Mueller read
the double ring ceremony before
an Improvised altar of fern, calla
lilies, white, snapdragons and glad-
ioli, flanked by tall candelabras
holding white tapers. Mart-
lea Henderson, wearing pink net
over white floral taffeta, played the
wedding music and accompanied the
vocalist, Gail Grant, of Crockett,
who sang “Mine Alone,” and "Be-
cause,” Miss Grant wore a formal
dress of pale green net. Don Duncan
lighted the candles.
The bride given in marriage by
her fattier, wore a white satin bri-
dal gown, fashioned with a net
yoke and skirt of net that extended
into a train, over the full satin
skirt, which was gathered to the fit-
ted basque bodice. A soft bertha of
the satin fell from the yoke of
net over long sleeves that came to
a point over the hand. Her finger-
tip veil of illusion fell from a halo
hat of net and satin and she car-
ried a bouquet of carnations, mi-
tered with a natural orchid.
Miss Ruth Ralls of Weatherford,
maid of honor, wore brocaded blue
taffeta, made on princess lines, with
net Insets in the skirt, while the
bridesmaid, Miss Jean Duncan of
Corpus Christ!, wore a pink sheer
dress with full gathered skirt. They
carried colonial bdliquets of pastel
colored sweet peas. The groom’s
father served as best man.
A reception followed the cere-
mony. The bride's table was cen-
tered with an arrangement, of daf-
fodils, snapdragons and gladioli in
colors of pink, yellow, blue and
white. The beautiful three tier wed-
ding cake was served by Mrs. Anna
Weils, after the couple had cut the
first slice, Mrs. Worthy Henderson
poured punch. Assisting in serving
were Misses Patsy Jamison and
Prances King, Mrs Ralph Duncan
and Mrs. Sam Cobb. Mrs. C. R.
Jeanes and Mrs. Tommie Saunders
alternated in greeting guests at the
door Miss Ann Haun presided over
the bride's book
The couple left immediately tor
New Orleans and upon their return
will be at home in San Marcos,
where they will both be students at
the Southwest Teacher* College,
both transferring from the Uni-
versity of Texas. For /going away
the bride wore a three piece gray
wool suit, with black accessaries,
wearing the orchid from her bridal
bouquet pinned to the lapel of her
coat,

Connie Galindo Weds
George Martinez In
Church Ceremony
Miss Connie Galindo, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Felix Galindo of this
city and Mr. George Martinez were
married Saturday, February 23, at
the Catholic church.
The double ring ceremony was
read by Father Postert, before an
altar of fern, carnations, snapdrag-
ons and candelabra holding white
candles.
Miss Otelia Galindo was her sis-
ter's maid of honor and Mrs. Pete
Cardenas was matron of honor.
Other bridal attendants were Miss-
es Geneva De La Rosa, Lativa Lo-
pez and Margaret Rosales. Rachel
Deanda was flower girl, and Willie
Cardenas, ring bearer.
Best man was Mr. Pete Cardenas
and groomsmen were Messrs. Pablo
De La Rosa and John Lopez.
The bridesmaids were dressed in
white taffeta and net, matching
gloves and sequin caps from which
fgll short veils. They carried pink
carnations.
The bride, escorted to the altar
by her father, wore a white bro-
caded satin gown with. a finger tip
Illusion veil which fell from a pearl
halo. Her bouquet was of white car-
nations. Her only ornament was a
string of pearls.
A reception was held at the home
of the bride's parents with Mrs,
Robert De La Rosa and Mrs. Ka-
trlno Martinez presiding.
The groom was recently dischar-
ged from the army. Enlisting as an
aviation engineer, May 6, 1941, Mr.
Martinez trained at Ft. Lindenwood,
Missouri and Westover, Massachu-
setts. Four months later he shipped
with the 803rd Aviation Engineers
from San Francisco to the Philip-
pines. On April 9, 1942, he was •
taken prisoner at Bataan. Septem-
ber 12, 1945, at Yokashima, Japan,
he was released and returned to
this country three months ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Martinez will make
their home here.
