JOLT THE
JAPS!
ATR FIGHTERS BIVOUAC IN GREENLAND—The rigors and hazards of air patrol along the bleak
Greenland coast are demonstrated in this picture of a U. S. Army Air Forces Mission patrol mission
forced down on the inhospitable Arctic fjord by bad weather and zero-zero visibility.
Unhurt, except for bruises and scratches, members of the crew cut their way out of the plane
and improvised a snow shelter, using one wing as a root. Then they rationed their” emergency food
supply, melted snow for water, and kept sending out weak radio signals in hope of directing rescue.
On1 the fourth day they were sighted and photographed from the air, and rescued by a Coast Guard
vessel immediately dispatched to the scene.

Back The Attack
With War Bonds
AUSTIN. July 15—"Back the At-
tack with War Bonds!"
That, Secretary Morgenthua. Jr.,
of the U. S. Treasury notified
Frank Scofield, Texas War Bond
Administrator, will be the stirring
slogan for the Third War Loan
Drive In September.
Secretary Morgenthau, Jr., tele-
graphed Mr. Scofield that this j
trumpet call to Texans to Invest
more millions In War Bonds for
cur fighting forces was Inspired by
the march of United Nations forces j
against Fortress Europe and Japa-
nese bastions in thp •Pacific.
"Thousands of Texas volunteers,
men, women and children, who
daily back our attacks on the en-
emy by/ constant sales of War1
Bonds and Stamps, readily will j
rally to the Secretary’s war cry for
the Third War Loan Drive," Mr
Scofield declared.
"The United Nations are on the
march," Secretary Morgenthau
said. "Tiie first rumblings of the
big offensive are being heard in all
the Axis nations. Thousands of
our men are storming Sicily. Tons
upon tons of bombs are dropping ;
on Germany. We are attacking]
Jap-held teiritory as never before
This Is a great day for us.”
Asserting this means the time
has come for us to really tighten
our belts on the home front, Sec-
retary Morgenthau continued: I
"We have come to a most crucial |
period in the war. The success that
we will have on the fighting fronts
will depend to a considerable ex-
tent upon the degree to which we !
here at home are willing to work j
and sacrifice for ultimate victory."
