Season Begins
The Bryson High
School Varsity girls
basketball team began
competing Tuesday,
November 9 with a
scrimmage against
Strawn. The girls went
to Strawn to see how
well they could do
against another team.
They came out on the
high side of the score.
Come and support the
girls as they look
forward to a winning
season.

Cowboys Halftime
The Bryson Cowboys
concluded their football
season Friday night
against the Alvord
Bulldogs. The Cowboys
won, 21-0.
At halftime, after the
Alvord and Bryson
drill teams performed,
Bryson's football
sweetheart was an-
nounced as Debbie
Greene, escorted by
Doy I^ee I>eatherwood.
Spirit Club Beau was
Mike Brooks, escorted
by Denise Ainsworth.
Congratulations to
these fine students.
We at BHS are well

Tangela Roach:
Burleson; Glad to
Have Been There
Guy Burleson was a
member of the Peace
Corps. He is the basket-
hall coach and science
teacher here at BHS.
From July, 1978 until
July, 1979, he was
stationed at Belize, a
country just south of
Mexico. Residents of this
former British colony
speak English, along with
some Spanish and Pigeon
English Creole.
This enabled Mr. Bur-
leson to communicate
quite well with his co-
workers and associates.
He was the athletic coach
in charge of sports
development, which was
to increase their level of
ability to learn different
sports.
Burleson would give
huge sports clinics,
which everyone attended.
He coached the national
basketball and soccer
teams. He was a nuetral
scheduler for all teams of
Belize.
Mr. Burleson explained
the life of these people was
very relaxed. They lived in
crudely built homes with
lots of kids and kinfolks
running in and out.
They ate very starchy
and greasy foods, and the
main foods were rice and
beans.
Even the water wasn't
pure, Burleson related.
But, despite hardships,
these people knew how to
have innocent fun. They
had a very strict code of
living, but when Saturday
night came, everyone
went dancing.
Life was very different
and, at times, difficult for
Mr. Burleson, who says, ”1
wouldn't want to do it
again, but Pm sure glad I
did it the first time.

School Respect
School respect is a big
issue on campus today.
Respect is one of the main
things students take for
granted.
If a person respects
another person, then these
two people will be happy.
If respect is taken for
granted, then all students
will be unhappy in one
way or another.
So please remember to
be polite and respect your
fellow students.
For example, dipping
and chewing tobacco are
two of the nastiest hahits I
know of. If a person would
keep his or her snuff in
their mouth or spit it in the
trash can, it would be a
much cleaner hahit.
Spitting on the school
steps is supposed to be
forbidden, but almost all
who dip spit on the steps.
Then those who walk or
sit on the steps get to step
or sit in it. Please have
more respect for your
fellow students and your
campus.
Senior Football Players
I, as a student of Bryson
High School for the past
eleven years have ob-
served the Bryson football
teams, I think our team
this year did an excellent
job on and off the field.
The boys dressed up
Fridays and showed spirit
throughout the week. I
would like to congratulate
the seniors on the excel-
lent job they've done.
They held the team
together and formed a
very solid friendship
throughout the year. The
cheerleaders, drill team
and pep squad also
expressed appreciation to
the boys for their support
this year.
Boys Work Out
Our varsity Cowboys
Basketball boys have
begun practice with
Coach Burleson. Two
hours a day of hard
labor should guarantee
us a winning season.
Go Big Blue; We Love
You!
