COLEMAN DEMOCRAT-VOICE
W FATHER DAMAGED
GARDENS
If heavy rains, high winds or
hail damage home vegetable
gardens, the homeowner must
decide whether to leave the
damaged plants or io replant. If
space iS available, a horticulture
1st for the Texas .Agricultural
Extension Services advises,
leaving some of the damaged
plants and replanting the
remainder. Since most veget
able seed will germinate rapid
ly now that the soil has
warmed, replanting is often the
best alternative. Whether
leaving the damaged plants to
recuperate or replanting,-the
overall delay an production will
mean closer attention to insect
control, watering, and other
maintenance practices.

CORKY CHAPMAN
Chapman Has
Statement For
County Voters
Corky Chapman, candidate
for reelection as Sheriff of
Coleman County, has authoriz-
ed this newspaper to publish
his statement to the voters, as
follows:
TO THE PEOPLE OF
COLEMAN COUNTY:
I want to be your Sheriff
again. I am married, 42 years of
age, and have 3 children. As
you knowd was born and raised
here in G&leman County and
most of you probably know
more about me already, than I
could ever tell you.
Since I w'as a boy, my dream
was to someday be Sheriff of
Coleman County. Eight years
ago this dream came true when
you elected me your Sheriff. I
have always tried to do my
duty as your Sheriff. I have
made every effort not to hurt or
copdemn anyone. I have at all
times attempted to enforce the
law fairly and honestly. I am
sure I have made mistakes
(who hasn't) but in my opinion
we each learn by experience. I
know that I am better qualified
for the office now because I
have 8 years of experience as
your Sheriff.
Just remember when you go
vote, I am not running, for
re-election out of revenge to
anyone or for any sympathetic
reasons. I like being your
Sheriff, and would like to
continue to serve you for
another term.
Because of the work load in
the Sheriff’s office, it is
impossible for me to contact
each of you personally, but I
feel I owe it to you, the people,
to be a working Sheriff, rather
than a main street politician.
In closing I would like to say,
“Thank You” for your past
support and the help you have
given me. It’s up to you now to
decide who you want for your
Sheriff.
I will appreciate it, if you see
fit to re-elect me. I will continue
to enforce the law to the best of
my ability and to stand behind
my word to you, the people.
Once again, I would like to
say I need and want this job,
but most of all I need your
support arid friendship.
Thank you,
Sheriff Corley Chapman
Pol. Adv. Paid by Corky
Chapman, Coleman, Texas
library of Abilene Public
Library which serves as the
Major Resource Center for this
area,” she said. “This means
our library patrons may check
out 16mm sound films free of
charge. .The films will be mailed
here for a pre-arranged show
date and then mailed back to
the Abilene Library."
The Coleman Public Library
has a catalog listing all the films
available along with annota-
tions telling what the film is
about, the age group it will
appeal to and the length of the
. film.
To obtain a film, place a
request with Mrs. Justice about
2 to 3 weeks in advance of your
planned show date. She will
reserve the film for you. The
film must be returned to the
local library immediately after
showing in order that it may be
returned to the Abilene library
in time to fulfill other requests.
The film titles available
range from the old time
comedies of Laurel and Hardy,
Charlie Chaplin, and W. C.
Fields to films on anthropology,
drug abuse, and many, many
other topics.
Among the more popular
children's films are the animat
ed films taken from the books of
Dr. Seuss, including “The Cat
In The Hat", "Green Eggs and
Ham", and others. Another
recent popular acquisition for
children and adults alike is the
Mario Thomas film “Free To Be
You and Me” which was
originally a television produc-
tion,
In addition, there are films
which would be appropriate for
programs on the Bicentennial,
such as A Tour of the White
House with Mrs. John F.
Kennedy or Williamsburg-
Story of a Patriot.
Students - and everyone - en-
joy watching the story of
Jane Goodall and her study of
wild chimpanzees or Dr. Leak-
ey's explorations into the dawn
of man.
"Obviously, we can’t discuss
all the titles here, so come by
the library and check our film
catalog. I'm sure you'll find
many titles which your club,
students or family would enjoy
seeing," said Mrs. Justice.
