Taking; Cue of Little Things.
There has been a great deal said
about economy, but most people
want to economize in big things.
I say economize in and take care
... the big
v things will take care of themselves
my first lesson in economy was
taught to me in 1864,when, almost
v' without warning, I was left with

ting to you bard; don’t squeal,
think that the Savior taught a les-
son in economy when he said:
“Gather up the fragments that
nothing be lost,” and I think it a
sm for a woman to waste to allow
to be wasted what a man works
for and puts in the house for her
to use. I also think that a man
has done the worst job of his life
when he marries a real careles
wastefull woman, and If I were
a man and found that I had done
that thing I would tie a rock
around my neck and go jump into
a millpond.
How, my dear sisters, as the new those are too little to notice; well

south, when there ought to be
thousands of gallons sold from the
south. How, the man may go to
town and buy a gallon bucket of
lard and it will not last .the waste-
ful woman more than two weeks,
for she will just plug her hands in-
to the bucket and put enougd in
one batch of biscuits for two or
three, and I would jnst as soon
have an old gre&y rag to chew on
as a biscuit that is made with too
much lard. It is neither good nor
healthful, besides it’s wasteful.
Now os to those other little
things some of you may say;'”Oh,
year is drawing near, just make a
resolution with you and yourself

house and yard, and I have
seen almost a half spool of thraed
roped off and scattered over the
flour and the children playiug
with it. I knew a woman last year
that I have seeu pull out yard and
yards of basting thread and throw
it into the stove and burn it. why
that would have done for the little
girls to sew their doll clothes with,
if for nothing else, if this is not
wasteful, what is it? when you buy
these things, put them out of
reach of the children or teach them
that they must uot waste them.
There is another thing that I have
noticed, some women with a lot of
little children let them go to the
safe at all times of the day and
cram their h mds into the gravy
bowl or meat dish and spread the
grense from the safe to the front
door. This is teaching the child to
er, either, if she will think about
it right. It causes her to have a
great deal of scrubbing, if she is a
clean woman.
Then there is that snuff—Oh,
that snuff! but I can’t afford to
say much about that, for I have
too many good frinds who use it to
excess. I do wish they wouldn’t,
for it is injurious to their health
and to tlieir pocketbook, too. just
try to make one of those little glas-
ses do you two weeks during the
next twelve month and see if you
will not feel better.
As to doing and taking care of
things at the right time, why,
right now immediately, is the righ
time, if you see a thing that needs
doing or taking care of, if you do
not attend to it now, you are going
