Bluecats, Mounties Advance To Bi-District
Cats Vs. Kennedale on Saturday
Mounties Vs. Goldthwaite on Friday
ByStaaBradaoy
For ■ third straight year, Cole-
man High will Mod a representative
time to the Tew State playoff
system....and (or a third straight
time, the Bluecata will be vying for a
bi district trophy....having accom-
plished the (eat in S-AAA during the
'83 campaign and last season in
11 AA.
Randy Smith's Cate got well last
Friday night in Tuscola, bombing
the severely depleted ranks of the
Jim Ned Indians on their home
grounds. 49-0. A well-oiled offensive
machine rolled up 460 yards rushing
and 141 passing (or a total of SOI to
earn the final 11-AA victory, dosing
the ledger at 7-3 overall and 6-2 in
district play in ’86. For the second
year in a row, the Cats played
second fiddle to the Eastland Ms vs.
who captured the U-AA title with a
glowing 7-0 chart.
It was a “must win” situation (or
the Cats in Tuscola and they
responded to the challenge. Senior
flanker Speedy Holloway turned
running back (or the second eonae
cutive week oo speical occasions and
performed magnificently. “Spud"
da tiled the Indians' defenders with
fancy footwork and world-class
speed, racking up (our touchdowns
and 203 total yards in the shutout
rout. He rushed (or 148 yards oa
seven carries, scoring oa three TD
runs of H M. and 48 yards while
gathering in an Ed Mondee TD pass
of 86 yards. The Cats' 140 pound
speedster has now caught 11 TD
passes and has tallied 14 six-point
era in 10 games to claim the Cats'
leading scorer top spot at (0 points.

played at a running back position all
season....especially with the Cats'
passing game faltering at best. Hind
sight is wonderful....isn't KTt _ tnf
To complement Holloway's flashy
running was the Cats' "twin” Burn
Brother, Darrell Warrick, who near-
ly broke the 200 yard ruahlng
barrier against “Ned." “Duriel"
gained 192 yards on 28 carries,
scoring on TD runs of two and six
yards, thus bringing his 1966 ten
game total to 1,201 yards. The 140
pound junior has tallied 12 TD's this
year.
The Cats' “quiet man", junior
Michael Hunter, played splendidly
on both sides of the line of scrim-
mage for the second straight week.
He was “Biuecat of the Week"
against Winters. Hunter rushed for
58 yards on six carries, scoring one
TD on a 19 yard gallop. On defense,
he wu all over the field at his
linebacking slot, delivering king-eis-
ed pope to Jim Ned ball carriers...
and his linebacking cohort Cameron
Norris wu busy doing the same....
intercepting two of Eddie Allen's
passu to make it thru In the past
two games and four for this season.
Norris is definitely rounding into
"poet-eoasoo" readiness, along with
his flank linebacker Scott Kirby.
On defenu, the Bluecats stymied
Jim Ned for nine first downs, 88
yards rushing, and 89 passing (40 of
them oo ooe play). The Indians'
deepest penetration wu the Blue-
eats' 32 late in the first period,
thanks to a 40 yard peas play from
Eddie Allen to Keith Davis. Norris'
two pass thefts gave the Cats 24 for
the season....a figure to be boasting
about.
With the runaerup position in
U-AA sewed up. the Cats
can now look forward to the
Kennedale Wildcats, who braaud
through their 12-AA schedule at 64).
They finished 9-1 overall, losing only
to Trinity Valley by a 14-6 count.. .*

relieved Greg Vasquez at quarter-

The Mounties broke open a score-

Ramon Vasquez in the second

Craig Duquette's yard plunge. Vu-

while Duquette and Tuttle chipped
in with 81 and 34 yards, respective-
ly. The Mounties had 267 yards

Good news for Mounties' fans....
