Cat JVs Bop Brady 36-0 To End 7-2 Season
The Bluecat junior var-
sity football team conclud-
ed its season last Thursday
on a successful note by
waxing visiting Brady, 36-
0. The young Cats had a
fine season, posting a 7-2
slate with six shutouts
along the way.
All of the scoring occur-
red in the first half as
coaches Jimmy Taylor and
Jack Baucom substituted
liberally after the intermis-
sion.
Stacy McKee set up the
Cats’ first tally by recover-
ing a Brady fumble at their
17. Bruising Jim Kuebler
bowled over tacklers from
the eight to score two
plays later. He also ran for
the two-point conversion.
About four minutes
later, McCord Wilson re-
turned a Bulldog punt to
the Brady 23, setting up
CHS' second tally.

a bull-like charge from the
ten doing the damage.
Wilson's pass to Johnny
Jurado for the two-point
conversion just missed and
the Cats were up, 14-0.
With 2:23 remaining in
the first quarter, guard
Jim B. Caldwell made a
devastating block to spring
tailback Darrell Warrick
loose for a 31 yard touch-
down run on a reverse.
Michael Hunter was stop- -
ped short of the goal line
on the two point run try.
The quarter ended with
the Cats on top, 20-0.
With two minutes gone
in period two, Warrick
flew around right end and
scored on a 61 yard run.
Kuebler’s run for two was
good and the Cats led, 28-0.
Bobby Parks set up the
Cats final tally when he
intercepted a Bulldog pass
at the Coleman 46. A
Wilson to Hunter pass was
good for 11 yards before
fullback Alan Durham
grabbed a Wilson screen
pass on the west sidelines
and rambled 66 yards for
the tally. Jackie Dodgen
ran around right end for
the two-point conversion
and the final tally was in,
364).
Pint-sized Mario Hur-
tado led the defensive
secondary with two inter-
ceptions ... one a diving
grab late in the game.
Brady was held to a mere
three first downs by a hard
hitting Bluecat defense.
Johnny Jurado’s kicking
game was excellent
throughout the action.
Mustangs Win, Head Toward
Championship Showdown At May
By Mike Stephenson
Mozelle breezed to a
72-27 victory over Brooke-
smith Thursday night to up
their record to 9 and 0.
Coach Bryant substituted
freely throughout the
game to allow all the
players to get a hand in the
victory and also gain some
valuable playing exper-
ience.
Mozelle jumped out to a
first quarter lead of 32-13,
then cruised on easily the
rest of the game. Senior
running back Bryan Griffin
did all of his nifty scoring
in the first quarter as he
ran for three touchdowns.
Griffin had TD runs of 8, 32
and 27 yards.
Matt Jamison, the other
fine senior running back,
broke loose on a 46 yard
run to give the Mustangs
another score in the first
quarter. Lester Matthews
hit good on all four of his
PAT attempts.
Brookesmith managed to
score twice in the first
quarter, scoring first on a
nice 63 yard pass play.
PAT was no good. They
then put together another
pass play for a 28 yard TD
and ran the ball over for
the 1 point PAT.
Mozelle blew the game
wide open in the second
quarter as they raced to a
60-19 lead. Rex Rae hit
Matt Jamison on a long 44
yard TD pass. Jamison
came back a little later to
romp in 16 yards up the
middle for his third TD of
the night.
Griffin warmed up his
passing arm as he tossed a
39 yard TD pass to center
Rex Stephenson on a half
back pass play. Senior
place kicker Lester Mat-
thews made it 7 out of 7 as
he booted the 3 second
quarter PAT attempts
right through the center of
the uprights. To top that,
Matthews got to practice
his field goal attempt with
a perfect 21 yard field goal.
good. At the end of the
first half, Mozelle led 60-19.
There were only two
TDs made in the third
quarter, one by each team.
Sophomore Miguel Avalos
bounced off tacklers to go
in for a seven yard TD run.
Mozelle attempted to run
the PAT, but was stopped
short.
Brookesmith scored
their TD on a 26 yard pass
play. PAT was good. At
the end of the third quar-
ter, Mozelle 66, Brooke-
smith 27.
With 9:45 left in the
fourth quarter, Mozelle
called the game because of
the 45 point rule. Junior
Henry Reyes scored the
last TD as he broke loose
down the sideline for the
50 yard TD. Final score
was Mozelle 72 - Brooke-
smith 27.
Mozelle had a balanced
scoring attack as seniors
Jamison and Griffin got 3
TDs each. Rex Stephen-
son, Miguel Avalos and
Henry Reyes each had a
TD. Lester Matthews con-
nected on 7 of 7 PAT
attempts and was 1 foe 1
on field goal attempts.
Griffin, Jamison and
Reyes had a fine night,
rushing the ball as Jamison
had 9 carries for 145 yards,
Griffin 7 for 107 yards and
Reyes 6 for 104 yards.
Donny Allen, C. J. Bol-
linger, Michael Jewel and
Dwin Nanny put in a super
defensive game as they

If you want to see a
bunch of excited people,
just come to May, Texas
Friday night. Yep, this is
the one they've all been
talking about since the
first of the year. The May
Tigers have a big powerful
team and are undefeated
on the year.
Bryan Griffin and Danny
Allen are both suffering
from injuries and both are
doubtful for the contest. If
they’re not up to par,
Miguel Avalos and Henry
Reyes will be ready to fill
in.
If the Mustangs beat
May and win the district
championship, they would
next go against Paint Rock
for their first play-off
game. If the Mustangs
suffer a loss, they would go
up against Marathon, the
winner of their district.
Friday night is your last
chance to see the Mustangs
in one of their regular
district games, and it
should be a great one to
watch. Remember, Friday
night at May, Texts. Kick
off time is 7:00 p.m. See

to 14-0. Nunez had an interception later in the
contest. The Cats won 31-15 to win the 8-AAA

nine of 16 passes for 220 yards and four
touchdowns. One of the tallies was a 99-yard
