Perrin Pirates Are Working Out ‘Pent*
For 70 Season Opening Sept. 12
Perrin Pirate football
practice began Aug. 17, with
18 boys reporting the first
day.
Coaches Allan Gibbs and
Ted Welch are working the
boys twice a day in prepa-
ration for the first ballgame
of the season on Saturday,
Sept. 12, when the Pirates
meet the Jacksboro Tiger
"B” team in an 8 p.m. game
at Pirate Stadium in Perrin.
The Pirates have eight
lettermen returning from the
*69 roster. As of the first
day of practice there were 2
seniors, 6 juniors, 4 sopho-
mores, and 6 freshmen re-
porting.
Chico game time 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 6—Perrin vs Alvord at
Alvord game time 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 13—Perrin vs Grand-
view at Perrin game time7:30.
Nov. 21—Perrin vs Masonic
Home at Masonic Home game
time 7:30 p.m.
The first five games are
not district games. Grand-
view is the only addition to
District 10-B, added when
they dropped from class “A”
and Lake Dallas Jumped up
to class “A.”
The Pirates scrimmaged
Aledo Aug. 18 and will scrim-
mage Kennedale Sept. 4,
7:30 p,m. there in preparation
for the first game of the sea-
son.

Perrin School Opening
Scheduled for Monday
Perrin preschool got off to
a good start Monday, Aug. 17,
when 21 preschoolers en-
rolled.
Some 25 are expected to
attend the first day of classes
Monday, Aug. 24, when the
1970-71 school year officially
begins.
Wednesday, Aug. 19, the
preschoolers took readiness
tests.
Preschool, under the di-
rection of Mrs. Charlotte
York and her FHA girls,
will come to a close on
Friday of this week.
First graders attending

The regular Perrin school
year will begin at 9 a.m., with
an assembly in the gym on
Monday, Aug. 24.
The public is invited to
the assembly which wiU
last some 30 minutes, ac-
cording to School Superin-
tendent Bob Cannon.
Afterward the students will
go to their homerooms for
final enrollment, textbooks,
and information about the
coming school year.
Two hundred and fifty
students are expected to
enroll the first day of school.
The regular school day, with
few exceptions, will begin at
8:15 a.m. and dismiss at 3:45
P.m.
The Perrin staff consists
of 15 full time certified
personnel, five full time
auxiliary personnel, a part-
time nurse, and a part-time
counselor, or a total of 27 em-
ployees. .
Teachers new to the school
this year are Jean Cannon,
first grade, and Ted Welch,
basketball and social studies.
Othela Turner is a new
employee in the lunchroom
and Bob Hutcherson is a
part-time bus driver.

Carol Patton, treasurer, re-
ported on financial status
of the club.
Roxanne Lee introduced
as guest speaker, Nancy
Locklear, whose husband is
pastor of a Church of Christ
in Panama. Mrs. Locklear
showed slides and talked about
customs of the people and
dating habits of the young
people of Panama. She also
played music from Panama,
demonstrated a native dance,
and served a typical snack
which the girls pronounced de-
licious. She was dressed in
native costume of Panama,
which is floorlength and
heavily embroidered.
With her husband and two
children she will return for
a two year period this month.
Plans for an ice cream
supper were discussed, after
which refreshments were
served by Debra Manley,
Sheila Masterson, Barbara
Miller, Celesta Mitchell.
JEAN CANNON, first grade
teacher for Perrin Schools,
graduated from North Texas
State University with major
in elementary education. In
August, .1969, she received
her master’s degree in
elementary education and li-
brary science from the same
University. She has taught two
years.
JACK YORK began his
teaching career at Perrin
Schools some seven years ago.
He receivedhisbachelor’sde-
gree from Sam Houston State
University with major in agri-
culture and his master’s de-
gree also from Sam Houston
with major in agriculture ed-
ucation.
CHARLOTTE YORK teach-
es homemaking for the Perrin
Schools. She came to Perrin
from Jacksboro three years
ago. Mrs. York received her
bachelor’s degree from Sam
Houston State University with
major in homemaking.
PEGGY AW ALT is begin-
ning her second year as teach-
er aide at Perrin School. Mrs.

The club decided to donate
$25 to FHA toward purchase
of a sewing machine for the

voted to meet each month on
the third Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Officers will meet Aug. 25,
7 p,m. to plan yearbooks.
LaRue Counts, Catherine
Francis and Charlotte York
will meet Aug. 28 to make
application for outstanding
chapter award. Mrs. York
and mrs. Martin are to at-
tend area meeting Aug. 22.
ANNA BELLE COTTON is
elementary principal for Per-
rin Schools, having served
for five years. Before becom-
ing principal Mrs. Cotton was
a classroom teacher at Per-
rin. She has bachelor’s de-
gree from North Texas State
University with major in ele-
mentary education. She
teaches junior high math in
addition to her principal’s dut-
ies.

BOB CANNON, Superin-
tendent of Schools, has been
with Perrin Schools four
years. He came from Ante-
lope where he served in the
same capacity. He graduated
from North Texas State Uni-
versity in 1957 with major in
business education, obtained
his master of education de-
gree from North Texas with
major in educational admini-
strative leadership at North
Texas and East Texas State
University.

enjoys sewing and sporting
events.
FERN CAUDILL received
her bachelor’s degree from
North Texas State University
with major in elementary ed-
ucation. She has been with
Perrin Schools four years.
Mrs. Caudill teaches fourth
grade. Growing flowers is her
hobby.
Bryson and Perrin. She works
out of the county superintend-
ent’s office. Mrs. Powers, RN,
has been in this capacity for
some 17 years.she enjoys
reading and music.
ALLAN GIBBS graduat-
ed from North Texas State
University in 1957 withbache-
lor’s degree in physical ed-
ucation and in 1960 with mas-
ter’s degree in school admini-
stration. He has been with
Perrin High School four years
serving as high school princi-
pal, football coach and math
teacher.
RUBY MITCHELL has been
with the Perrin Schools for
five years serving as one of
two full time cooks in the
lunchroom. Mrs. Mitchell has
hobbies of handcrafts and gar-
dening.
ROYCE TURNER is in
charge of the bus fleet for the
Perrin Schools. Royce also
drives the Gibtown route. He
is starting his second year in
this capacity. Stockfarming is
a hobby with Royce.
KATIE LOU COX is second
grade teacher at Perrin
School. She has been with the
system for 11 years. Mrs. Cox
received her bachelor’s de-
gree in elementary education
from North Texas State Uni-
versity. Her hobbies are flow-
er arranging and reading.
ELIZABETH STEELE re-
ceived her bachelor’s degree
from Howard Payne and her
master’s degree from North
Texas State University. Mrs.
Steele has taught 15 years in
the Perrin Schools. Her teach-
ing assignment is English and
Speech.
MONNA LYON is the secre-
tary for Perrin Schools. She
has been with the school for
three years.
KAREN BOLLIER began
her teaching career at Perrin
Schools last year. She is in
charge of business education.
Mrs. Bollier is a graduate of
Howard Payne with major in
business education and physi-
cal education. Her hobbies are
reading, sewing and sports.
TED WELCH is new bas-
ketball coach at Perrin High
School. He graduated in May
from Wayland Baptist College
with major in physical edu-
cation and biology. He will
drive one of the east bus
routes. His hobby is hunting
and fishing.
LEVA MAE WOODS is in
charge of the lunchroom at
Perrin School. She has been
with the school for 9 years.
Mrs. Woods’ hobby consists
of handwork and travel.
LINDA KENT is beginning
her second year at Perrin
Schools as junior high and
high school social studies
teacher. She received her
bachelor’s degree from East
Texas State University as a
history and physical education
major. Mrs. Kent enjoys sew-
ing.
BILLIE WHALEY is fifth
grade teacher for Perrin
Schools. She came to Perrin
from Northside of Vernon two
years ago. Mrs. Whaley re-
ceived her bachelor’s degree
in elementary education from
Texas Tech, her master’s de-
gree at Howard Payne with
major in secondary education
and English. She enjoys music
and art, .
OTHELA TURNER is a new
RAY LUNA enjoys a combi-
nation hobby of gardening and
flower arrangements. He has
been with the school for some
22 years in charge of build-
ings and grounds.
MARGARET HALL is third
grade teacher at Perrin. She
majored in elementary educa-
tion and received her bache-
lor’s degree from Texas
Christian university. Mrs.
Hall has taught in Perrin
Schools for four years. She
BLAINE WHALEY, grad-
uate of Texas Tech and East
Texas State university, is be-
ginning his third year in the
Perrin Schools as science
teacher. He majored in agri-
culture education on under-
graduate work, school ad-
ministration on graduate and
post-graduate work. He en-
joys outdoor sports.
JOHN D. WHISENHUNT is
beginning his second year as a
bus driver for the Perrin
Schools. He drives the west
route. John enjoys fishing and
outdoor sports.
MILDRED POWERS is co-
op nurse and serves Antelope,
ED GILMORE has driven a
bus for the Perrin Schools for
eight years. He is one of four
regular drivers. Ed enjoys
wood working and reading. He
drives the Whitt route
of town.
