Bids From Oil
Companies Read
At City Meet
At the last meeting of the city
commission, bids from five oil com-
panies for supplying lubricating oil
for the use of the city for the next
year were read by A. M. Brenneke.
The bids revealed the fact that the
lowest figures were made by the
Continental Oil Company.
On motion of Commissioner
Thompson the matter was held up
until the next meeting.
The bids weer asked for on the
blanket booking basis, the rates
quoted being for a stated amount
of each kind of Iubr’cant. 'o be
used On the price quoted it was
explained by Mr. Brenneke, that
should the city use 'ess than the
amount on vjtiich the figures were
based, the city shoui i pay only
for that amount used
“We ib, m>( have enoi gh equip-
ment of the city to use as much
as five hundred dollars worth of
oil in a year,” stated Commissioner
P H. Tobin, “We must, keep a close
check on the use of oil and oe
that the employees do not use it
wastingly. There is a good place
to economize for the city and we
should keep a close check on the
expenditure,” he stated
On the basis of the figures which
were submitted to the oil com-
panies for bids, it was stated, all
were given the same opportunity
to make their bids. All of the b.ds
submitted were between $509 and
$600. The figures of the Simms
Oil Company were said to be in-
complete and did not figured in
the final reading of the bid s The
bids as read and the company mak-
ing them follow:
Continental Oil Company, $527.43;
Texas Oil Company, 1651.91; Citlee
Service, 556.28; Magnolia Petroleum
Company, 695.84

Knob knockers seem to have an
affinity for the big safe of the Den -
ison Auto Company, that plane of
busness having been entered on two
occasions this year and the safe
jimmied considerably However
they failed to get into the money
box this time, evidently frightened
away by the officers who had their
attention attracted to the place be-
cause of a light having been turned
off in the office where the safe
w;as located. No arrests have been
made.
