Great season start for
Lady Cat basketball
Wildcat football made a pretty
smooth handoff to the Lady Wild-
cat basketball teams this week, as
high school sports head inside to
the gymnasium. All three Cana-
dian girls' teams posted season de-
but victories here Tuesday night
in a clean sweep of 3A
roundballers from River Road.
The Lady Cat varsity re-
bounded from a 9-point deficit in
the third quarter to beat River
Road 69-66 in what coach Kevin
Richardson called “a great team
game." In the first game Tuesday,
the Lady Cat JV held their oppo-
nents to less than 10 points per
quarter in a take-charge 66-27 vic-
tory to start their season. On Mon-
day, Canadian’s Freshman girls
topped White Deer Road 68-18 be-
hind heavy hitters Shila Province
and Kelsey Nall, each of whom
topped 20-points to lead the
scoring.

Two JV players put up dou-
ble-digit points to lead Canadian’s
substantial win over River Road
Tuesday night, but just about ev-
erybody chipped in on the scoring
and on the boards. Coach Penny
Province credited team play and
an effective press with contribut-
ing to the big opening night win.
“I was very proud of all the
girls,” she said. “I am seeing im-
provement in our transition game
each week. also. The girls held our
opponent to under 10 points each
quarter, which shows how well
they played solid defense."
Almosv, everyone scored on of-
fense, Province added. “I felt each
girl contributed their best effort"
Holly Conn led the scoring with
18 points, while Jessica Shelton
put up 13, and Lisa White and
Ashley Johnson contributed 9 and
8 apiece. Others putting up points
were Tianna Hartriin and Lesley

racking up an impressive 68 on
their own side of the board Mon-
day. Over half of those points were
produced by two players—Kelsey
Nall with 22, and Shila Province
with 21.
“We played a solid game offen-
sively and defensively,” coach
Richardson said of the win. “It was
a good first game for the Lady
Cats."
