Lee Young announces bid for
Precinct 4 Commissioner
Lee Young formally an-
nounced hi* intention this week to
file as a candidate for Hemphill
County Commissioner in Precinct
4. Young will be a candidate in the
March Republican primary, op-
posing incumbent Commissioner
Lynard Schafer.
Young served one term as Pre-
cinct 4 Commissioner from
1995-98.
“As a former commissioner,”
he said, “I question why our
County taxes were raised 5%
while our County roads in Pre-
cinct 4 are in the worst shape that
I can remember, with the excep-
tion of the ones we rebuilt during
my term—those roads have held
up well."
“1 also improved the County
equipment for Precinct 4 without
loans, except for motorgraders,
all within budget,” Young said.
“When I left office in 1998,1 left a
fund balance in my budget of
$45,000 plus. And guess what? We
used the equipment!"
Young also cited his involve-
ment in developing intergovern-
mental cooperation during his
term as Commissioner. “It was
during my term that we commis-

sioners all voted to help birth the
Canadian EDC," he said. “We
worked to bolster our local econ-
omy, and improve our commu-
nity. If elected as your
commissioner, I will continue to
support the Canadian EDC.”
In making his announcement.
Young also commented on na-
tional and international events. “I
would like to say something that
is in my heart concerning the re-
cent events in New York City. We
all know what has happened and
the effect it has had on our coun-
try. Canadian is at the top of the
list when it comes to helping oth-
ers and supporting our commu-
nity, which is wonderful. But I
would like to encourage everyone
to support your local church, pas-
tors, and community services.
That is a great time to get to-
gether and worship God as a com-
munity. God bless America."
Community Thanksgiving
Service this Sunday
The Canadian Ministerial Alliance invites everyone to attend the
Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 18, at 7
p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The service is a unique opportunity for the whole community to
join together and thank God for His rich blessings.
Dean English, pastor of the Canadian Church of Christ, will
bring the message. Many community and area churches will
participate.
An offering for the Canadian Ministerial Alliance Benevolence
Fund will be taken. This fund enables the organization to help many
people with groceries, utilities and gasoline.
Cookies and punch will be served following the service; all are in-
vited to participate.
