The second summer theatre sea-
son at the Old Bastrop Opera
House is in good hands in the opin-
ion of Managing Director Chester
Eitze following the opening last
weekend of “Billy the Kid ”,
which will continue through June
30.
"As far as I’m concerned, the
company has already proven to be
a cohesive and professional
group,” Eitze said Tuesday.
“They managed to overcome tech-
ical difficulties inherent in any
production."
Eitze success measured by au-
dience appeal sustains his early op-
timism about the summer season.
He said 100 attended Friday night's
show, 120 came Saturday night,
while the Sunday matinee and
evening shows each drew about 50
persons.
Eitze said the Sunday matinee
performances are good for those
who don't like to go out at night
and could also serve Bastrop
tourists. The matinee performances
also cater to the homemade ice
cream and cookie set with these
refreshments served.
While Eitze was pleased with the
early numbers, the range of sup-
porters of the Bastrop Opera House
is a further sign of strength.
"We got good attendance from
Smithville.” he said. He noted
other theatergoers from the usual
places. Austin. San Antonio and
Houston. Other visitors, however,
travelled from as far away as Ore-
gon and Minnesota Citizens of
Iceland, Italy and South Korea also
witnessed the melodramtic portray -
al of Billy the Kid last weekend
Among them were people well
versed in staging melodramas.
Eitze said
He was quick to credit the play-
ers and behind-the-scenes per-
sonnel
Among them are Gina Lalli of
Austin, who is designing costumes
designer for the three productions
this summer: Bastcopians. Teri
