Student Voice
By Robie Subia and Kade Mitchell, Staff Writers
This week's question is: Do
you think we should have a
Spring Break next year or have
several 3-day weekends?
We should keep the school year
the same and have a regular Spring
Break. There are too many unnec-
essary changes each year.
Christy Subia
We should have a Spring Break
because we'll have a 9-day week-
end instead of just a 3-day.
Gilbert Rodriquez
I think that we should have a
Spring Break because most schools
do.
Joaquin Guadarrama
I think we should have a regu-
lar Spring Break. I think that it
would help everyone take a break
from school and TAAS Tests.
Lorena Aguilar
I think we should have a Spring
Break so that I can go to the beach
and look at them babes.
Jesse Oviedo
I think we should have a Spring
Break because we have too much
school and it gives us a break from
the teachers.
Melinda Barrera
We should have Spring Break
because I already have 3-day week-
ends because of spring sports.
Yvette Talamantes
I think we should have Spring
Break because everybody looks
forward to going places during
that time.
Joel Dela Garza
Spring Break because I like to
go places for a week.
Kade Mitchell
We need to have a Spring B reak
because I get tired of seeing the
same teachers all of the time.
Sondra Hester
I really don't care because I'll be
out of here, but I think they
shouldn't have anyone of them
because students lose things they've
learned over that period of time
and blame it on the teachers.
Ruben Martinez
I think we should have a Spring
Break. It lasts longer.

Joyce chosen as Student of the Month
By Lesley Wilburn, Editor-in-Chief
Laura Joyce has been chosen as
the Freshman Student of the Month.
She is the daughter of Hal and Vicki
Joyce and has one sister, Amy.
Laura says that Band is her favor-
ite class because, "We get to go to
lots of different places like the up-
coming trip we're taking to Florida."
The person that has impacted her
life the most is her mother because,
"She is always there when I need
her."
Outside of school Laura stays
involved in youth activities at her
church and enjoys talking with her
Is Math and Science education
as bad as it seems???
What is wrong with math and science education in America? By now most
parents have read the sketchy reports on the Michigan State Professors
project to show that the United States is far behind the rest of the world when
it comes to math and science.
However, some questions remain unanswered. Who was tested, how
were they tested, and why? Here in this school system, students are
encouraged to think for themselves and be problem solvers. Take for
example the geometry classes’ last project. The students built measurement
devices and used trigonometry to calculate the height and distance of objects.
They were only given basic guidelines, but most students created good
devices, used correct mathematics, and even gave interesting and informed
reasons for error and how to correct that error.
Our students are not just learning algorithms and how to do well on a test.
They are encouraged to think and act for themselves; to be problem solvers.
This is a free country, our students are given the freedom in choosing certain
courses and how well they will do in them.
Therefore, for those parents who instill in their children the work ethic that
is required to do your best at any task, thank you.
