Church met on Thursday,

special intentions.
Committee chairpersons

was well with their commit-
tees. Spiritual Chairperson,
Sharyn Mechler, presented
an interesting message
about the Year of Faith to

Council of 1962. She not-
ed that this year Catholics
should focus on embracing
all walks of faith regardless
of their differences.
Members celebrating
November birthdays were
recognized with a joyful
rendition of Happy Birth-
day. A Hail Mary was re-
cited in their honor.
In old business, Yvonne
Haby and Helen Lutz re-
ported that the Golden Age
Turkey Dinner on Novem-

with attendance reaching
200 guests. They thanked
all members who gave of
their time to help make the
dinner possible.

Day also had a nice turn-
out and a successful silent
auction.

funds available for clothes,
food and gifts for a family
in need. In other new busi-
ness, a motion was made by
Willie jean Schott and sec-
onded by janice Roberts to
give two gifts to Father jim
Conway, Father jim Fis-
chler, and Rey Hernandez.
The December meet-
ing’s format will change in
regards to refreshments.
The serving committee will
purchase prepared food
items paid from the trea-
sury. The serving group will
also purchase bingo prizes.

to donate a $50 food card to
use toward the December
meeting’s refreshments.
Attendance prizes were
won by Helen Debner and

on Tschirhart claimed the
hostess prize. The meeting

I hope everyone enjoyed
their Thanksgiving break. I
had a great Thanksgiving...
cooking with my daughter,
good food, good friends,
and family. I got to spend
time with some family
members that I don’t get to
see often and that is always
a blessing. Now, of course it
is time to get back to work
on Old Fashion Christmas
details and Chamber Ban-
quet chores. I’ve sent out the
nomination forms for the
2012 Community Awards,
so don’t forget to send in
your nominations. Also, if
you know of a senior that
would be great for jr. Citizen
of the Year make sure they
fill out an application...a
$250 scholarship goes along
with the award. We are also
looking for nominations for
Citizen and Business of the
Year... nomination sheets
are at the office.
Friday at 11 a.m. we will be
decorating the bridge if any-
body would like to help. You
probably saw some of our
elves out working last year..!
don’t know how they did it
with so few. We need all the
help we can get...find us at
the office or on the bridge.
4 miles 4 others
On Saturday, December
8 starting at 7:30 a.m. there
will be a four mile run/
walk to raise money to buy
a food distribution truck
to bring food out to Cas-
troville to feed the hungry.
According to the Texas
Food Bank Network and
Texas Hunger Initiative,
there are 7,010 Medina
County residents (16%)
who are food insecure. This
is a mesure of the hunger of
a family based on whether
there was a time when they
had difficulty within the
last year of meeting their
food needs.
The course will begin at
the First Baptist Church
of Castroville and run
through the flat and roll-
ing streets of Castroville
and conclude back at the
church.
You can register online
at www.athleteguild.com
or by mail-in registration
form. The fee is $20 for
early registration and $25
on the day of the race. For
more information on the
event and how to partici-
pate, contact Rene Maciel
at rsmacl984@gmail.com
or 830-931-1984.
Old Fashion Christmas is
soon.... December 7th & 8th.
Make sure your businesses
and homes are decorated
for Christmas, and don’t for-
get about street closures for
the event. There will be a lot
of people in town, let’s make
them feel welcome! I have
gotten so many positive
comments on this event,
let’s keep them coming. Fri-
day evening we will have a
tree lighting ceremony with
carolers and music. A lot of
the vendors will be set up
that evening with others also
coming on Saturday. Santa
will also make a showing
both days. It’s a lot of fun, so
come out and celebrate and
check out the great vendors
that are coming to town for
the weekend.
If you are interested in
running off a little of that
turkey and dressing, sign
up to run in the 4 Miles
4 Others Run on Decem-
ber 8th. The $20 entry fee
will go to our local families
in need. Contact Rene Ma-
ciel at 830-931-1984 if you
are interested.

A team of citizens, un-
der the leadership of john
Wommack have been
working in recent months
on event scheduling in
Castroville in order to im-
prove attendance at all
events and improve pro-
viding information to the
public on when events will
be taking place.
For example, the annual
St. Louis Day celebration
in August is an all-day
event involving games for
kids and adults, tourna-
ments, entertainment,
music, food, raffles, and a
large silent auction. Many
people spend most of the
day there. Another event
scheduled for the same day
would likely have lower at-
tendance as a result.
Unfortunately, some-
times several events have
been scheduled at the
same time, such as the Boo
Bash in Regional Park on
October 27 that drew 2000
people and may have af-
fected attendance at two
other events that were
scheduled for the same
evening.

year. Ask at the church or

www.castroville.com. our
calendar page keeps you
up to date on what’s going
on in Castroville. And if you
have any events planned
please let me know. Have a
great weekend!
On the other hand, the
jazz Fest that was held in
the Park on November 3 in
the afternoon and evening
of the same day as the City
Wide Yard Sale may have
benefited in attendance be-
cause the yard sale drew so
many people to Castroville.
If you or your organi-
zation has planned an
event, please get in touch
with Brenda Kempf at the
Chamber of Commerce,
830-538-3142, and let her
know so she can add it to
the yearly calendar. The
calendar can be accessed
at www.castroville.com. or
at the Chamber office at
1115 Angelo.
The Event Commit-
tee meetings are held on
the third Thursday of the
month at the Landmark
Inn at 5 p.m. If you want
to take part or offer ideas,
contact john Wommack at
830-538-9688 or Brenda
Kempf at the Chamber of
Commerce at 830-538-

ganizations such as Boy
Scouts, 4-H, or any civic
groups are all invited to
attend and offer input on
how events can be sched-
uled to benefit everyone.
