LEHER1 TO THE EDITOR
YOUR TURN
Best care anywhere
Dear Editor:
I have been a patient in hos-
pitals in Texas, California, Ala-
bama and the D.C. area, military
and civilian.
My experience with my eight-
year old son, a patient at the
Medina Regional Hospital in
Hondo this past week, was the
most wonderful and happy one.
The care for my child, from the
ER to the staff on the second
floor, was outstanding. Every-
one (ER doctor, nurses, atten-
dants, housekeeping, respira-
tory therapists and x-ray techs)
was so gentle, kind and caring.
They treated my little boy like
a king. This made his stay very
easy and not frightening.
He had a nasty case of pneu-
monia, but with their great
treatment, he actually enjoyed
being in the hopsital.
This is by far, the best hospital
ever. God bless all of them. They
are, indeed, Angels of Mercy.

Encouraged, yet concerned
Dear Editor:
We’re proud and thankful to
be part of the community of
Medina County where the vast
majority voted conservative
and for Biblical principles. We
are sadly disappointed that the
rest of our state and country
did not. So, it was good to be
encouraged and uplifted, and
reminded to be thankful Sun-
day evening, Nov. 18th at the
Hondo Community Thanks-
giving Celebration at the high
school cafetorium.
Our local newspaper report-
ers usually cover such events so
well, but since they missed this
one, I’ll try to tell about it be-
cause, though it was said to be
the best attended in 13 years, a
lot of people missed out on this
blessing. People had worked
hard to set up chairs for about
twice as many as attended, and
the wonderfully faithful and
talented community choir had
practiced for weeks to do this
for us. Some people apparently
did not attend, and some even
came - and left, because there
was not food being served! Does
this perhaps correlate with part
of the season for the direction
our dear, richly blessed na-
tion has chosen? Concern for
our temporary taste buds and
stomachs but not for our eternal
souls?
Pastor Mel Hazelwood of
New Fountain United Method-
ist Church encouraged us with
a recounting of worse times in
our nation’s history, from which
we have recovered, thankfully!
He later led us in many short
thanksgiving prayers to our gra-
cious loving Heavenly Father.
Pastor David Mayer of St. Paul
Lutheran Church welcomed us
and opened with prayer, and
later encouraged us by read-
ing these scriptures from God’s
Word: Psalm 98; Philippians
4:4-9; Luke 7:36-50, followed by
prayer.
Worship Pastor, Kerry Mann,
of First Baptist Church, Hondo,
led the rather small, but very
good choir, accompanied by
Della Plagens at the piano, in
singing “Be Still”; “Even in the
Valley”; “God Is Good”; and “
He Is Good”. The congregation
joined in singing “We Gather
Together” and “Count Your
Blessings”. All of the music was
beautiful in words, sound, and
volume. Thank you, Kerry, Della
and choir.
Pastor Wally Goodman, In-
terim Pastor at First Baptist
delivered the benediction, since
Pastor Andy Tyson had just
arrived from on out-of-town
obligation.
An offering was received for
the Ministerial Alliance Fund
for helping those in need in the
community. Donations can
also be given to any church and
designated for this fund.
Thanksgiving seems to be
getting more and more ignored
and overpowered by Halloween
and the commercialization part
of Christmas. We need to cher-
ish and nurture these precious
opportunities to give thanks,
corporately, as well as individu-
ally, to the One Who has blessed
us so, and continues to love and
care for us in spite of our neglect,
our precious Heavenly Father,
our Lord God Almighty. We hope
and pray that such a gathering
in the future will include all who
missed out on this great bless-
ing. Some local churches were
represented, we missed those
who were not. Also, there were
no youth or children there. We
know you parents and youth
leaders and young people are
terribly busy, but are our priori-
ties rightly placed as we desire
to lead them in the right direc-
tion?
With thankful and encour-
aged, yet concerned hearts.
