The Reading Club Is steadfastly
pursuing the programs outlned In

ties have occurred due to absentees
and various conditions; hut the full
quota of subjects has now been ren-
dered.
Three practical subjects were pre-
sented : Fire Prevention, Paper Man-
ufacture and Scholarships The
holiday subjects have been carefully
observed, the Christmas meeting,
with exchange of gifts, with usual
and unusual incidents, was elabor-
ately celebrated at the home of
Mrs. J. T. Hale. Valentine’s Day,
with Its hearts and darts and cand-
led sweets, with love themes, literary,
pictorial, and musical, was given a
pleasing and spacious setting at the
home of Mrs. R, L. Orr. Patriotism,
was evinced on Washington's l!»7Mi
birthday, Mrs. Swafford hostess.
Book Week program culminating

of books when the titles wore an-
nounced, was held with Mrs. C. F
Smith. Historic Streets claimed at,
tentlon when the meeting was with
Mrs. MeOarrlty. the hostess is a new
member and therefore was unani-
mously excused for serving refresh-
ments, which Is usually “out of

Methodist Church
The pastor has been attending a
conference-wide meeting at Jack-
sonville this week, but will be back
for the Sunday services.
Come to all the services next Sun-
day.
Christian Church
Sunday school at 10:00 a nri If
we are to go beyond last year’s fig-
ures In attendance we will have to
get a hustle on us. Easter will soon
he here. On Easter we should have
at least two hundred in attendance,

Morning service and communion
til 11:0ft a m. All the church should
he present, at the leapt of the Lord's
Simper. The subject of the morning
sermon will be "Jesus. Criticised and
Judged ” This will be one of the
best of this series that we have
preached so far.
Evening worship at. 7:30 p. m.
.Subject of evening sermon ”Warm-
Ine at The Devil's Fire.” This ser-
mon should be heard by the entire
church as well as by the sinner. We
hope to have a full house Sunday
evening. Come and bring a friend.
T am having a very good meeting
ut Fort Worth. Had seven preachers
in my audiences Sunday. Am pro-
nounced best preacher that ever
spoke In their pulpit. It’s not true
of course, but It sounds good any-
way. I hope to see you all next

Eagle. March 5.—Well I am be-
ginning to think that the believers
in ground hog surely have their
belief shaken some by now for the

since ground hog day. We are so
anxious for spring we watch every
sign of its coming.
The farmers are sure busy these
days getting ready for real active
work. Some have their gardens
planted and some few have peas
cabbage and onions looking right
pretty. But the most of us have
no turkey eggs yet. We are anxious
to begin finding nests as the tur-
key crop up until last Fall was the
main crop and we are in hopes It
will t«* good this next Fall.
Mrs. Bell Hicks and daughter,
Ethel, spent last Monday afternoon
with Mrs A, A. Hanks.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Spence
vi lted Granny Sides last Sunday.

The play at Duncan Saturday
night was fine. It was a continual
laugh throughout the play. They
took in something over thirty dol-

Mr*. T. C. Mobley
Mrs. T. C. Mobley, wife of Mr.
W. C Mobley, died February 23, at
the family home near Big Lump,
following an illness of about two
months. The funeral was delayed
until Feb. 26. awaiting the arrival of
a daughter who lives in Pennsyl-
vania Rev. Cliff Alexander, pastor
or the Rockdale Baptist church, of-
ficiated being assisted by Rev. R.
Mnhlev a brother-in-law of dece-
dent, from Belton. Interment was
in the cemetery at Milano.
Mrs. Mobley was born Aug. 15,
1864. in Georgia, and was married
in that state to W. C. Mobley on
Dec. 18, 1879. They came to Texas
Edwin Smith and Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard Ashley were visitors In the
Chester Grissom home Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Luckey, of
Rockdale, spent the week end at
their old home here.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Simmons enter-
tained their mother, Mrs. E. C.

in 1883, settling at McDade, Bas-
trop county. In 1898 they moved to
Milam county, near Thorndale, and
in 1906 moved to Milano, where they
continued to reside until about four
years ago when they moved to the
farm near Big Lump. Decedent
had been a member of the Mission-
ary Baptist church since the age of
13.
Mrs. Mobley leaves to mourn her
loss besides her husband, four child-
ren, sixteen grand children, and
one great-grand child. The child-
ren are: Mrs. Lucy Richards of
J. C. Peterson and Grace and Mary

Duncan, March 5.—The new
month started with bad weather,
but the sun is shining pretty this
morning. And quite a few are
planting gardens and the farmers
are getting things together to start
planting corn.
J. W. Seaton, son and daughter,
and Ralph Caffey were Cameron
visitors yesterday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Young, of
Forest Grove, spent Saturday night
and Sunday with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Drummond and fam-
ily.
Those that were visiting with Mr.
and Mrs. Reed Duncan Sunday
afternoon were: Mrs. Modesett and
children, Mrs. Myrtle Council nnd
daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin
Young and Mr. and Mrs. Lenza
Caffey and babies.
Mr. and Mrs. Garland Caffey and
very Interesting to all. Meeting was
called to order by president, Mrs.
Will Schwartz, minutes were read
by Miss Mabel Modesett, and we
read the club prayer, lead by Mrs.
Cecil Plate. Then the meeting was
turned over to Miss Bartholomew
and she gave an interesting talk on
Essentials of Decoration ln Living
Room. She also showed several
pretty samples for draperies. The
next club meeting day will be Wed-
nesday, March 13. Several members
were absent Friday but had eight
new members as follows: Mrs. Jack
Dunham, Mrs. Hall Massey, Mrs.
Lem Dunham. Mrs. George Roberts,
Mrs. Marvin Charles, Mrs. Charles,
Mrs. Burken, and Mrs. Will Davis.
We are always glad to have new
members and visitors are invited.
Next meetng we are going to have
flower exchange. So each one who
has flowers and would like to ex-
change for different kind, or color
bring them with you club day.
Remember each one bring money
for thetr hen, which was donated to
help buy the school library.
Barber home Sunday.
Frank Morton got the first Joint,
of his finger cut off while stacking
cross ties at the Sandow mines Sat-
urday evening. He was carried to
Rockdale to a doctor Sunday morn-
ing and again Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Avrett und
Mr. and Mrs. Bethel Rodgers visit-
ed in the Leonard Ashley home
Sunday night.
PLEASANT HILL
Pleasant Hill. March 5.—There
was a nioe crowd at the party at
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gary’s Friday
night It Is the first party that
Pleasant Hill has had ln a long time
and we wish that we would have
more of them.
