Traditional week of activities initiates HPU freshmenMegan Haverlah

The traditional yet
unique 2010 Daze of
Payne is the one week
of the year freshman at
Howard Payne can act and
look totally and complete-
ly ridiculous and have no
worres.
This year, I am current-
ly halfway through the
week of being a "Little."
The craziness of Daze of
Payne has been so enjoy-
able. Throughout the
week and weekend, there
is a scavenger hunt around
Brownwood, a Daze of
Payne student section at
the football game, and
some special "activities"
for us to participate in
during the fourth quarter. There is also more ridicu-
lous costumes and say-
ings, too, but here is how
the week has gone so far:
Day 3 - Tuesday
"Bubbles, don't pop
me, don't pop my bub-
bles." Today, I was bub-
bles, and it was awesome.
I managed to get through
the day without getting
my bubbles popped, or
popping them myself.
The only problem with
my costume is that I could
not see my feet or desk
and had issues putting on
the seatbelt. Overall, the
bubbles idea was super
cute.
Tonight my roommate,
some friends of ours, and
I headed to the Academy
Lanes bowling alley to
paint our beanies. I am
pleased with the turn-outs. My "Big," Amber
Schroepfer, brought my
secret note that said what
I have to say and costume
for tomorrow to the bowl-
ing thing. I get the lovely
privilege of being a bride
tomorrow, complete with
the rings and veil. This is
a little out there for me,
but with the rings to give
away, it could be kind of
fun.
Day 2 - Monday
Paynt Games were so
much fun. This morning
was so scary. I was really
worried about the cos-
tume thing and the paynt
games. I dressed up in
pajamas and carried my
pillow around all day. If
someone said my name,
I had to hit them with
my pillow and say pil-
low fight. That was notquite as bad of a costume
choice as I was expecting,
and I didn't get my name
called very many times
either.
I was very nervous
about going to the paynt
games, and did not expect
to see a slip-n-slid deluxe
filled with paint. I fig-
ured if it was there, I had
to participate, but it was
really, really fun. I had no
idea rolling around in a
pile of paint would be so
exhilarating.
Then, when all the
paint activities were over
and I cleaned myself
up, I headed over to my
"Big's" apartment so she
could reveal my outfit for
tomorrow. Well, I have
to say I am very pumped
about this outfit. I get to
be bubbles.
