Yang, North Korea. Pyong Yang University of Science
and Technology is the first private university in
Korea. I'll be leaving on Monday, April 30, and will
be there for about two months. I will "teach the elite
of the elite," as most students will be from families of
officials or military. The founder, James Kim, asked
me to teach at his university when I spoke on "How
Big is God?" at the American Science Affiliation
in Illinois. Pyong Yang University is staffed by a
Christian faculty and is trying to bring different cul-
tures to the students. I will be staying on campus."Some HPU faculty and students

"I will be going on an eight-week, all-expenses-
paid study abroad program with PIRE (Partnership
in International Research and Education) in Pisa,
Italy, and will be there from June 2 to July 27. The
program will allow students to conduct research and
apply algorithms and software in a cross-cultural set-
ting. Dr. (Pam) Bryant had suggested that I apply for
this program, and the foundation is awarding me an
additional $2,000."

The Howard Payne University Woman's Club
honored staff member Betty Broome and student
Lillie Davis at an April 12
luncheon.
Broome, HPU's execu-
tive assistant to the presi-
dent, was the recipient of the
Yellow Rose Award. Davis, a
cross-cultural studies major
from Lampasas, was named
the recipient of the HPU
Woman's Club Yellow Rose
Scholarship for the 2012-13
school year.
Broome will retire in May
with 26 years of dedicated
Betty Broome service to HPU. In addition
to her work with university
administrators, she has been the recording secretary
at countless meetings of HPU's Board of Trustees
since 1989, and her dedication to HPU includes
work on numerous university committees. She has
received awards in appreciation of her service to the
university, including being named Staff Member of
the Year in 2004. While working fulltime at HPU,
she also pursued and earned a Bachelor of Business
Administration degree from HPU in 1995.
"Betty is a faithful friend to the countless people
who are proud and privileged to know her," said Dr.
Diana Ellis, HPU first lady and Woman's Club presi-
dent. "I am pleased and proud to present this year'sYellow Rose Award to my
dear friend."

is presented annually to a
woman who exhibits exem-
plary leadership, supports
the university, and represents
Christian values and beliefs
foundational to the university.
Davis has excelled aca-
demically while at HPU. She
has earned the university's
Presidential Scholarship and
has been named to the Dean's
List and the President's List. Lithe Davis
As a resident assistant in
Veda Hodge Hall, Davis serves as a mentor to other
students living on campus. She is involved in student
activities and the Baptist Student Ministry and helps
coordinate student-led worship held on campus every
other week.
Davis is also active in ministry outside HPU,
serving as an intern with the college ministry at
Brownwood's Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.
She regularly works with youth camps through the
Southwest Texas Conference of Methodist Churches
and has served as a youth intern at Oak Hill United
Methodist Church in Austin.
The HPU Yellow Rose Scholarship is presented
annually to a female sophomore at HPU who main-
tains at least a 3.0 grade point average, participates
in extracurricular activities and exhibits leadership
qualities representative of Christian values.recirculate tourism throughout the country. They are
giving out 10,000 free round-trip tickets this summer
to go to Japan. I am going to apply for one of those
tickets and save some money to spend a week or two
in Japan, perhaps tour the Christian academy where I
want to teach. I am currently making efforts towards
obtaining a passport.

traveling from Alabama to Tennessee to South
Carolina, with a ministry called World Changers."

"As soon as school lets out, I'll be staying here at
HPU for Maymester. In June, I'm doing an internship
at a church, and then in July, I'm getting married!"/
