Signs by Rudy amount to more than advertisement. They are an
art form that is created by Rudy Lopez, local sign painter.
Local Artist Turns
Sign Painting Into
An Art Form
by Linda Grace-West
Maybe it’s the culture or the
lack of economic advantages
that produce the soil for so
many people of Hispanic des-
cent to excel in the arts.
Maybe it’s just in the
ancestry.
When a child has no toys, he
can take a pencil and his im-
agination and provide himself
with endless adventures with
his free time.
It was in just such a situa-
tion tht Rudy Lopez lived as
a child in Michigan. His
drawings, caricatures, and
portraits have always been
part of every day in some way
for Rudy.
The fame of El Greco, the
media of DeGas, the profile of
Michaelanglo, or the recogni-
tion of Monet are not Rudy 's.
Yet, Rudy is an artist of local
renown that provides the peo-
ple of Wylie with a “pinch” of
art to enjoy in every day life.

This is really the way art
should be, not just in
museums only or in fine
homes but for everyone to
see.
His signs are not just block
letters but works of art. His
windows painted for the
holidays of the ‘‘Holy City”
provide joy for all who pass
by.
This is the real measure of
art • the pleasure it gives and
the pleasure it brings.
Rudy loves his work and
loves to share it with
everyone.
He and his wife, Joy, live in
Wylie and have five grown
children. They love the com-
munity and hope to live in
their beautiful home a long
time.
While this is a job, Rudy
responds, "God has given me
this talent by His grace to
use for my living. I hope I can
use it to glorify Him as well.”

change
! chanj / (vb) [of CELT origin] to undergo a transition
or modification, to make different.
At Farmers Electric Cooperative, we understand change. It's
the ability to act, not react, in order to meet the demands of our
membership. It’s also the capability to continually provide
dependable electric service at a fair price.
We're changing as never before, including our meter reading
program and cycle billing, increased brush control, a new
full-service Sulphur Springs office, an ambitious line construction
and upgrading program and a corporate office personnel
reorganization that rededicates our efforts to serve our members.
In short, we welcome the challenges that change brings. That's
one thing that will never change.
