busy, meaningful one. 125
TOFTYites and staff came
to Greene Family Camp for

My Life,” faith development
and spirituality. Each day of hiking, performing and just

host city for Fall Conclave.
TOFTYites came in record
numbers to learn about re-
lationships and have a beach
party and moonlight seren-
ade on a ferry boat on
Corpus Christi Bay. Just
two months later, our
four-day winter Kallah was
held at Greene Family
Camp. No one would have
known it was winter, be-
cause, as usual with Texas
weather, it felt like Spring-
time in Florida. The sun-
shine enabled us to enjoy the
outdoors, by having many
sport activities along with
the study of Judaism and
Christianity, and Evangeli-
cal Christianity and its effect
on our government. TOFTY-
ites attended workshops and
held debates on issues of
Church and State. It was a
wonderfully warm and close
weekend, and made every-
one look forward to all of the
Spring events. In January,
the Regional Board met to
discuss and vote on issues
concerning the organization
of TOFTY, and attended
leadership training classes,
all at Jewish Community
North, in Houston.
February jnarks the dy-
namic, outstanding, NFTY
National Convention con-
vening in Washington D.C.
TOFTY will have 46 repre-
sentatives. Delegates will
hear prominent speakers
such as Mayor Edward
Koch, Senator Howard Met-
zenbaum, Dr. Sol Gordon,
and many of our own from
the Reform movement. Del-
egates will also attend a
myriad of workshops rang-
ing from “self and the
family,” “marriage,” “God,”
“stress,” “Reform: the easy
alternative,” “Must I Believe
in God,” “Israel,” “Church-
State,” “Black-Jewish Rela-
tions,” “Central America,”
“Soviet Jewry,” “Ethiopia,”
... . the list is practically
endless. To add even more
excitement to this con-
vention, everyone will tour
Washington D.C. and have
the opportunity to lobby on
Capitol Hill. This historical
event will be a shot of
enthusiasm into the arm of
TOFTY whose delegates
will return to the region and
prepare for the annual
sports competition event,
Maccabiah, at Greene Fam-
ily Camp. To add icing to
the cake, the sweetest and
most sentimental event of all
will be Spring Conclave, this
year to be held in Dallas at
Temple Emanu-El, with the
theme of “Teenage Stress.”
Elections for the new year
will be held and this will be
the time when goodbyes are
said to the graduating
seniors.
Congratulations go to
Gary Solka, TOFTY Presi-
dent for organizing and
carrying out a fantastic,
successful year. Gary is the
son of Davie Lou and Jack
Solka of Corpus Christi.
