Many prominent our-towners made news this past week and were
accorded distinguished honors. In the mail for Rabbi Schur was his
official invitation from President Eisenhower to the White House
Conference for Children and Youth to be held in Washington in late
March. Rabbi Schur was appointed to the Governor’s Youth Council
by Gov. Price Daniel in the early fall. Attorney Milton Simon has been
named General Chairman of the Forthcoming Jubilee for the Long-
horn District of Boy Scouts. And, Michael Goldfedder has been named
General Chairman of the Tarrant County Great Books Groups, with
Atty. Carl Abramson serving as publicity chairman for this new and
most worthy endeavor.
Another outstanding award for
Pressreporter, Seth Kantor, who
won the features category in the
State Headliners Contest. While
Seth receives his $250 prize at a
banquet in Austin this weekend,
arriving for a visit with the
family will be his mother, Mrs.
Arvid Kantor, of New York City
and aunt, Mrs. Vi Peterson of
Hollywood, Calif. Also from the
“movie city” Norm Alden, who is
seen more and more on the major
network TV chanels may soon ap-
pear even more frequently in
something special reported brew-
ing. Norm is the son of proud
and delighted mother, Mrs. Ben
Adelberg, who is a bit of a local
trouper herself. Successful busi-
nessman Jack Greenman will serve
as Tarrant County Junior Ach-
ievements Chairman. How nice
that Norma (Mrs. Hem-y) Mack
_ will be recognized for her many
years of dedicated community and
civic service by the National Con-
ference of Christians and Jews.
NEWS AND NOTES:
Among the out of town guests
who will attend the family wedd-
ing of Charlote Davis and Zeke
Handler this Sunday will be aunt
and uncle, Irma and Will Nathan,
Rae Lipsey, Bebe and Carl Hess
and Dr. Charles and Sylvia Na-
than, all of Houston and good
friend, Miss Mary Lee King of
Nacogdoches.
Following the ceremony, the
bride’s sister and brother-in-law,
will honor the couple at an Open
House and Reception at their
home, 5101 Cockrell from 2 to 5
p. m. All friends are cordially in-
vited to attend.
Happy anniversary wishes to
Tillie and Dave Abramson who
are celebrating their 26th. And
anniversaries reminds your scribe
that Leaba and Morris Silver were
delighted that so many of their
friends just dropped in to offer
their good wishes when they ob-
served their Silver Anniversary
recently. The Silvers leave short-
ly for California where they’ll
continue their celebration with
friends and family there. Cantor
and Mrs. Philip Kirshner are
happily entertaining his cousin,
Miss Rochelle Weidman of Winni-
peg, Canada. Pauline and Samuel
Sheinberg are delighted to have
their son, Israel,) home again.
Israel was formerly with Hughes
Aircraft in Los Angeles and plans
to pursue a career close to home.
Tillie and Marvin Labovitz expect
to leave this weekend for a New
Orleans vacation. Recent visitors
to the Crescent City were Rowena
and Sam Kimmell. Speedy recovery
wishes to Mrs. Phil Mallin.
Mrs. J. J. Jacobs who is guest-
ing with her children, Helen and
Bill Weinberger and grandchil-
dren, Janis and Henry, in San
Francisco, particularly enjoyed at-
tending Henry’s high school grad-
uation earlier this week. Con-
gratulations due Janet Fels, teen-
age daughter of Zina and Hans
Fels, who recently won the All
State Music Contest for High
School Students. The talented
violinist will play in Austin next
month, with other winners, under
the leadership of a nationally
prominent conductor. The Dr.
Louis Levys due back from the
American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons meeting in Chicago.
Mrs. Sam Estes of; Cedar Rapids,
la., enjoying her visit here with
her children, Irene and David
Wolff and family. Dave, by the
way, was snowed in for four days
during a business trip to Kansas
City last week. Gloria Rashti,
daughter of Toba and Abe Rashti,
a pre-med student at the Univer-
sity of Texas. Gloria, who form-
erly attended O. U., is a mem-
ber of Alpha, Epsilon sorority.
Florica Ionescu Fuller enjoyed
chatting with old friend, Princess
Cardja during her brief visit here
last week. Nice to know that
Belle Lavine is recuperating at
her Winton Terrace home.

duct Sabbath Services and speak
on “Time—Spent, Saved, or Wast-
ed”, this Friday evening at 8 p.m.

Kirshner and the choir will chant
the liturgy.
Participants in the Services in-
clude Charles Caughey, opening
prayer; Joe Zenick and A1 Wexler,
responsive readings; Dr. Irwin
Raff, open the Ark and David
Edenbaum, closing prayer. Dr.
Leonard White, Bob Savitz and
Phil Gerstein will serve as ushers.
The Men’s Club will sponsor the
Oneg Shabbat following.
