DR. MILTON V. DAVIS
Dr. Miton V. Davis, “Dr. D.” a 2001
recipient of the Texas Medical Associa-
tion’s Distinguished Service Award, died
Sept. 13,2006. He was retired from pri-
vate practice in thoracic, cardiovascular
and general surgery in Kautman and
Dallas. He was a delegate to the American
Medical Association, a past president of
the Texas Medical Association, a former
mavor of Kaufman and a member of the

Kaufman County Medical Society. He
was involved in local, state and national
politics, focusing on civic and medical
affairs. Born Nov. 11,1920, in Shreveport,
La., the son of E. Henry and Rose Pinsker
Davis, Milton Davis graduated from Tyler
High School in 1938. After attending the
University of Texas, he obtained his
Doctor of Medicine in 1944 from South-
western Medical College, where he
remained a faculty member until his

demise. Dr. D spent 32 years in full-time
practice then continued his work in
Kaufman until 1993. In Canton, he
served as medical director ot its outpa-
tient clinic in physical medicine until
1995. He practiced at the U.S. Veterans
Administration Hospital in Dallas until
March 2006. Dr. Davis was founding
president of The University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School Alumni.
He served as secretary, president, and
legislative chairman of the National
Medical Veterans Society; president of
the Texas Chapter of the American Col-
lege of Surgeons, the Dallas Southern
Clinical Society, Southern Thoracic Sur-
gical Association and Dallas Chapter of
Phi Beta Pi. Dr. D is survived by his wife
of 62 years, Vera Nell F.rwin Davis; his
brother Leo M. Davis;daughters Rachael
Shea, Margery Miller, Bart>ara Hardin,
and Diann Hogan, sons-in-law Howard
Hardin and Will Hogan; nine grandchil-
dren. two great-grandchildren and
numerous friends. After a private family
service, conducted by Rabbi Neal Katz of
Tyler and grandson Warren Sibley of
Dallas, friends and family honored him
with a celebration of his life at Cedar
Creek Country Club, Kemp, Texas, on
Sept. 15. Memorials may be contributed
to Tri-County Library, 132 Market St.,
Mabank, TX 75147 or the charity of
choice.
RUTH PLUNDER IZAKS0N
Ruth Izakson,beloved mother,grand-
mother and friend, died Aug. 26,2006 in
Spokane, Wash. Ruth was born in 1920
in Opeln, Germany, survived the Holo-
caust, immigrated to America with her
husband and older son,gave birth to her
younger son in Chicago, III., lived 46 years
in Houston and spent the last six years of
her lite in Spokane. She lived her motto,
“Do good things for the world; do good
things for God.”She was a supportive and
enabling wife to her husband, a loving
and nurturing mother and grandmother
to her children and grandchildrens tire-
less and beloved worker on behalf of
Jewish youth in United Synagogue Youth
and Young Judaea, an enthusiastic sup-

beings as a registered nurse, and a ter(
vent Jewess. Ruth was preceded in deat
by her husband, Siegmund. She is su
vived by her children and grandchildren:
Rabbi Jacob, Mania, and Katya Izakson
of Spokane, Wash., and Bernard “Dubi”
and Carmen Izakson of Eastsound,
Wash., and their son and Ruths
grandson, I st Lt. Joshua Izakson of Okla-
homa City, Okla. Funeral services were
held on Aug. 28 in Spokane. Memorial
contributions in her memory may be
made to Temple Beth Shalom, 1322 E.
30th Ave., Spokane, WA 99203,and Holo-
caust Museum Houston, 5401 Caroline
St., Houston, TX 77004.
JEROME (JERRY) MELTZER
Jerome (Jerry) Meltzer, 87,died July
16, 2006 at his Dallas home, with his
beloved family, wife, Maryanne, and
daughters, Frances Sinclair and Carolyn
Carter, by his side. Jerry was horn in
Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1918,hut spent most of
his life as a Texan. In 1939, he joined the
Army Air Corps,and served with distinc-
tion as both a Master Sergeant and First
Sergeant; he was stationed for 28 months
on the Galapagos Islands, guarding the
Panama Canal. He and Maryanne Rips
wed in 1945 at the Adolphus Hotel, and
the couple enjoyed over 60 loving years of
marriage. Jerry received^ bachelors
degree under the Gl Bill at St. Louis Uni-
versity’s Parks Air College, and soon after
went to work for American Airlines as a
flight engineer, a profession he held for
35 years, until his retirement in 1983. He
was active in Jewish War Veterans Post
256 (twice serving as Commander), and
the Farmers Branch Lions’ Club, as well
as performing hundreds of hours of vol-
unteer work for the Veterans
Administration Hospital. The family
have been longtime members of Temple
Emanu-EI. Jerry was known to friends
and neighbors as a super-skilled “Mr.
Fixit,” always ready to help. He main-
tained great patience through a long and
debilitating battle with peripheral neu-
ropathy. Rabbi Gerald Klein officiated at
a service held at Temple F.manu-EI’s
kefleowitz Chapel to celebrate Jerry’s life.
