Sigma Alpha Mu
Fraternity

Mayer Lebowitz
The 1955 Badminton Inter-
mural Tournament is officially
opened on Hilltop. Sigma Al-
pha Mu gained the number
one spot in the official stand-
ings by defeating the Kappa
Alphas. Sigma Alpha Mu al-
so finished the volleyball
tournament in third place.
The Badminton Quintet of
Sigma Alpha Mu consists of
Dave Olschwanger, on, the
single team, and Marvin My-
ers, Mayer Lebowitz, Ruben
Greenstein and Joe Friedman
making the two double teams.

Recently, Mu Alpha was host
to the National Field Secre-
tary, Bill Schwartz, better
known to the fellows as “Willie
Paul”. Bill is a graduate of the
University of Oklahoma and
an alumni of Sigma Alpha
Chapter of S.A.M. at Norman,
Oklahoma. In honor of Bill’s
visit to Mu Alpha, a “Depres-
sion Party” was held at the
Fraternity House. The best
dressed couple were Marvin
Myers and Shirley Hellburn
who came in tow sacks em-
phasizing the “soup line” and
Marvin Fried and his date,
Barbara Lipshey, who appear-
ed as “Tycoons of Wall Street”.
March 19 Hillel and the
SAMMIES at SMU are hav-
ing a costume party at White
Rock Lake in the Dreyfuss
Club. Everybody is invited to
come on out and have fun. Sig-
ma Alpha Mu are very happy
to announce that our pledge
class of last semester had the
number one scholastic average
of all fraternity pledge classes
on campus. Congratulations
fellows, keep up the good
work.

United Hebrew Schools
To Hold Open House
The Parent Teacher Associa-
tion of the United Hebrew
Schools of Dallas will hold its
Annual Open House meeting
MONDAY, MARCH 21, 7:30
P. M. at the Hertze Chaikel
Talmud Torah building, 1723
Peabody Avenue.
Mrs. Maurice Hoffman and
Mrs. Milton Dreeben, program
co-chairmen, will present an
original play written by Mrs.
I. Brodsky entitled “ ‘If You
But Will’ ” with Mr. E. Tan-
kus as director and featuring
a star-studded cast.
Parents of the schools are
urged to attend to view their
children’s work on display,
meet with the teachers and en-
joy an entertaining program
and social hour.
The program is being pre-
sented ifr observance of the
Jewish Tercentenary.

Monsky Speaks

On March 11 as a community
Service Project, MONSKY
printed the cover for the Kap-
lan Sweetheart Dance news-
paper.
The Men of Monskyville have
been very busy this week.
Philip Charat and his Cultural
Committee have planned a uni-
que program for our next
meeting. A prominent physic-
ian will address the chapter
on sexual problems.
The MONSKY Religious
Committee, ably headed by
Aleph Kohen Godol, chaplain,
Larry Annes, is planning a
mammoth religious service to
be held March 25 at Congre-
gation T’fereth Israel. MON-
SKY Alephs will conduct the
entire service. District Seven
Director, Jack Weiner will de-
liver the sermon.
On April 2, Vic Ladd and
Ron Silverman, Social Com-
mittee Chairmen, and their
committee have planned a
“Gangster Dance.” The old
“MONSKY SYNDICATE”
will be reborn at this affair,
so beware!
MONSKY is entering the
National BBYO bowling tourn-
ament. Qualifying rounds will
be held and the highest scores
entered.

The Jennie Zesmer B’nai
B’rith Girls Chapter 300, have
had the honor of having as
their guest, Miss Myrpa Zap-
ruder, First President of the
chapter. Miss Zapruder told of
the founding and beginning of
Zesmer Chapter when it was
known by number only.
The Religious and Comm-
unity chairman combined their
efforts by having members
bring clothing for underpriv-
ileged children, telling of Pur-
im £ id serving of appropriate
refreshments at their March 6
meeting. In charge of arrange-
ments were Misses Barbara
Angrist, Natalie Haberman,
Dana Waldman and Marta Un-
german.
A Shipwreck Dance at
Huvelle Cottage, Bachmans
Lake, will be held Saturday
evening March 19. Decorations
will be supervised by Miss
Marta May, who promises the
attending survivors a real
shipwreck atmosphere. Miss
Pearlene Klepak is in charge
of tickets. Miss Sue Lipman
Social Chairman, is overall
chairman. Prizes will be given

To Feature
Samuel Adler
The Business and Profess-
ional Women of Hadassah'—
the B&P Group—will have as
a special attraction at its reg-
ular monthly meeting, Tues.,
March 22, a presentation of
Jewish Music Through The
Ages by Samuel H. Adler,
Director of Music at Temple
Emanu-El. Mr. Adler will ill-
ustrate his lecture with selec-
tions at the piano. The meet-
ing will be held at 8 P. M. at
the Dallas Power and Light
Company Auditorium.
The Dallas Symphony Or-
chestra has premiered Mr. Ad-
ler ’s First Symphony and
Finale—a Postlude for Orch-
estra, which was written last
summer at the McDowell Col-
ony in Peterboro, New Hamp-
shire. In addition to orchestra
works, he has composed a con-
siderable amount of choral
pieces, songs, chamber and lit-
urgical music.
An added feature to the pro-
gram will be a talk by Mrs.
Frances Garber on Passover
and a display of the Passover
Table with the special setting
and ceremonial objects.

Jewish Youth Week
WASHINGTON, D.C.-Pres-
ident Dwight D. Eisenhower
said that Jewish Youth Week
“serves to remind the entire
nation of the contribution that
Jewish people have made to
the development of the United
States.” Jewish Youth Week,
to be observed from March 18
to 25, is an annual project of
the National JWB.
