about her, and her work
has been praised by
leading figures of the art
world including Lowery
Sims of the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New
York and many major
collectors.
Out of the tangled un-
derbrush of the Louisiana
bayou, Clyde Connell
fakes cedar, cypress and
rattan from her native
surroundings to create
her rough-skinned, earth-
colored sculptures that
evoke the surrel presence
and raw power of
primitive art Connell is
creating some of the
most austere work of her
career today, born from
her concerns of the dif-
ficult problems that
society currently faces.
Serene and optimistic at
age 87, Clyde Connell
continues to work, with
the aid of an assistant, at
a pace that would daunt
someone half her age. As
Golden Acres Resident
Council president Helen
Dahl man said,
she. . "gives us a clear
demonstration that our
later years can be
creative and wonderful."
The Dallas Home for
Jewish Aged Golden
Acres Campus is located
at 2525 Centerville Road’
at Shiloh. Croup tours
can be arranged by
calling the Home at (214)
327-4503, for viewing in
addition to the daily 10-
12 and 2-4 hours.
