Practice in Liberty Hill
_ #_,,
Tiger tracksters travel
By E. Perez, Jr.
Sports Writer
The Smithville Amateur
Athletic Union summer track
program went on the road Satur-
day to compete in a practice
track meet in Liberty Hill.
“They did real well,” said
Smithville coach Jimmy
Trousdale.
Trousdale, who is assisting
track coach Danny Dailey, said
the meet was a good opportunity
for the younger kids to get the feel
of a track meet and find out what
goes on at the meet.
Because the meet was a prac-
tice meet, winners of races were
not awarded ribbons, medals or
team points.
The practice meet was more
important to the younger athletes
on the team.
The competition is divided in-
to age groups ranging from
under-10 to 19 years old.
“I saw one little girl that
couldn’t have been much over six
years old and she was doing the
long jump,” said Trousdale.
In two weeks, June 26-27,
athletes will again gather in
Liberty Hill for the central Tfexas
AAU qualifiers.
The top four athletes in each
event will become eligible to ad-
vance to the next meet in San
Antonio. r
Eventually, the successful
athlete will compete at Min-
neapolis in the national Jr. AAU
Olympic games, this August.
“We took 35 athletes to Liberty
Hill, but we anticipate 20-25 more
people will turn out for the
qualifiers in two weeks,” said
Trousdale.
He added that if any student
under 19 years of age who is in-
terested may still turn out to par-
ticipate in the program.
“It’s hot too late to show up at
practice,” he said.
Tennis camp set July 6 of
■The Tahitian Village Inn and
Racquet Club is now accepting

sional Priscilla Looney said the
camps will begin July 6 and run
through August.
Looney said the camps will in-
clude tennis practice from 9 am
until 11 am and break for lunch
and swimming until 1 pm. Ttennis
practice will resume and con-
tinue until 3 pm.

termediates aged 8-15 will be
