Two Cedar Creek artists, Mona

honored at a “New Artists Gala
Reception” June 6 at El Taller
Gallery in Austin. , % *
The women were included in a
group of 20 new artists chosen
from all over the country to be in-
troduced into the gallery. The
Austin gallery exhibits work by
such Southwest artists as Amado
Pena, Michael Atkinson and
Pablo Antonio Milan.
Mona and Reeda each ex-
hibited four paintings at the
reception and will have other
works on display at the gallery in
the coming months. The New Ar-
tists Exhibit will continue at El
Taller through June 30.
Reeda Peel’s artwork is. in-
spired by Native American pic-
tographs and she is actively in-
volved in archaeological research
which takes her on “digs” to
various ancient sites. She works
primarily in pastels, but the
technique she uses in her
stonework pictograph pieces is a
trade secret.
Bastrop residents may often
find Reeda at the Bastrop Opera
House where she volunteers
much of her time to various com-
munity cultural events.
Mona Eagle’s primary medium
is serigraphy, a fine-art
silkscreening process, and she
says that her work is based on
Native American folklore and
mythology. Last year her
serigraph, “Three Musicans,”
was chosen as the promotional
poster for the Old Pecan Street
Festival and another poster,
“Healing Tree,” was recently
chosen for the Austin Rape Crisis
Center’s Capitol Campaign
fundraiser.
She was featured in a one-
woman art show at J.C. Penney’s
in Austin last August. Mona’s
work is now exhibited in galleries
throughout the Southwest, in-
cluding Albuquerque, New Mex-
ico and Sedona, Arizona, but
Bastrop residents may also view
her work at Tejas Galleria on
Main Street.
