Apartment manager, residents air
gripes on stagnant water problems
BY ROMEO MUNGUIA
A stagnated area ol Little
Booger Creek, which runs west
to east in Burleson, has been the
subject ol numerous complaints
from residents that live in a
nearby apartment complex.
Sandra West, the manager ol
the Willow Creek Apartments
located on Thomas Street, men-
tioned that the water run-ofl has
swelled with recent tains and n is
creating an eyesore situation
neat the apartment complex.
The water is stagnant and peo-
ple have begun to dump old tires,
mattresses, rugs, inner tubes,
papers, cans, and other debris in
the area. The weeds in the creek
bed are I mm > to n tool high, and
the mosquitoes are "unbear-
able.” according to West.
/"The first pail ol Max. I called
' the city and told them to come
out and sprav because we
couldn’t even sit outside without
getting bit b\ mosquitoes," said
West. "The city came out and
sprayed lor the mosquitoes and
that kept them awax lot aboul a
week; then they came back
again."
The xxatei is not lloxxmg and
there are weeds, trash, and a
slimev green moss on lop ol the
xxatei. "I here is exen a turtle lix-
ing in there," she said "It smells
like thcic is something dead
in there.
“ONE-MONTH AGO, the city
brought a backhoc and cleaned
in the creek a lexx hours and
every since we have been having
complaints about mice and rats
in the apartments. One rat ate a
whole box ol Girl Scout cookies
Not even rat pellets are keeping
them out,” she complained.
Another problem that West has
encountered is that she is con-
stantly having to tun oil kids
who want to catch crawdads in
the dirty pool. "They could gel
sick Iron, that stagnant water,"
she said. "No telling xxlinl all is
out there There max be snakes,
"When xxe sit outside to enjox
the owning we get eaten up b\
the mosquitoes.”
The swelling pool is also eating
up the creek banks, and there is
about one loot bom the apart-
ments’ lence to the bank
”V\c used to go oxoi the lence
P> minx, but xxe can’t get across n
anxmorc because there is no
place to walk," she said.
The odor is unbeatable and all
this is keeping the tenants out,,
according to West "One man loll
the apartments because lie was
alraid to let Ills kids plax outside
and he xxas alt aid one ol Ins kids
