Sunday, the Rt Rev Clarence
Cullam Pope, Jr , bishop of the
ion Worth Episcopal Diocese,
knocked at the front door of
Hols Cross Episcopal Church in
Burleson "Let the doors be
opened, " said the bishop
With pride, the doors were
opened by the Res Brien
Koehler as the consecration ser-
vice for the brand new church
building began. Signing the
threshold with the sign of the
cioss, the bishop began his first
c huicli consecration since his
appouiimcii! in late December
Emm groundbreaking to con-
•etration, the new sanctuary for
Ifylv Cross has been a special
pnilcjcl for Hob C ross members
and the vicar. Pride glowed on
the faces of the parishioners
Sunday afternoon, in spite of
dark clouds hovering over the
new little church on Johnson
Street The crisp white paint of
the outer walls and the stately
church steeple made a distinct
contrast against the gray skies
Following the formal consecra-
tion service, involving a proces-
sion of clergy and acolytes
around the church sanctuary as
the bishop anointed the 1 2 con-
secration crosses and blessed the
baptismal font and candle stand,
special recognition was given to
the stained glass artist who pro-
vided the entry window art lor
the church. The window was
dedicated to the memory of Ed
and Janet Luedtkes parents as
members of the family stood
with the clergy
Also attending the service and
recognized from the altar was
the architect of the new sanctuary,
Anhui Weinman of Eon Worth
With si\ dormer windows on
each side of the high pitched
roof clearly the dominant features
of the church's outer structure,
the architectural style is a mod-
ern interpretation of Colonial,
said Koehlei
Sunday's special service was
not the first one held in the new
Holy Cross sanctuary The
church was opened bv Bishop A
Donald Davies on the first Sun-
day m November; he also was on
hand tor the Holy Cross ground-
breaking about a year ago
The new sanctuary's complet-
i'l *
ion—and remodeling of the ad-
joining structure which formerly
served as the sanctuary—has
allowed for a new pre-school
ministry at Holy Cross for 2, 3,
and 4 year olds. “Next, year will
be our second full year w ith Holv
Cross Episcopal Day School,"
said Koehler
