All three banks in Burleson reported
increases in deposits, loans and total
assets over this time last year and bank
executives predicted continued growth
and increasing prosperity for the city
The First National Bank of Burleson,
the city's youngest financial institution,
showed an increase in deposits of 62
percent with $4,981,897, almost $2
million better than last year Loans fell
a 15 percent increase with $2,759,535,
over $360,000 better than last year's
borrowing.
Burleson State Bank's deposits
jumped 219 percent to $31,379,551,
representing a $5,645,293 increase in
customers’ savings, while loans in-
creased by 33 percent to $16,900,449,
better than $4 million more than last
year.
F&M State Bank announced a 16 per
cent increase in deposits to stand at
$44,673,883, while loans reached a 36
percent increase to $19,208,345.
Burleson’s oldest bank reported total
assets of nearly $50 million, a 15 percent
increase over last year
BOB BRANSOM, VICE president at
F&M, said of the bank's large loan in
crease, “F&M is well underway with an
aggressive loan program to further
W
enhance our banking position and bet-
ter serve our customers' require-
ments ''
According to Bransom, all categories
of loans showed significant gains dur-
ing the first calendar quarter and in-
dicated that the overall outlook for
Burleson, Crowley, Joshua, and sur-
rounding communities appears op-
timistic.
Bransom said the deposit increases
were due largely to the general
business climate and attractive rates in
a variety of interest bearing account
plans.
F&M is currently in an expansion
program with a banking house that will
more than triple its current space A
portion of the new building will be oc-
cupied next month with final comple-
tion scheduled for later this year
JAMES JENKINS OF Burleson State
Bank predicted that 1983 will be a
tremendous year as new housing is
coming back strong in the city.
“Interest rates are on a downward
trend and should continue that way
through 1983 and possibly into 1984," he
said "As people continue to move to
Burleson they will attract new industry
and retailers to serve the increased
needs of the community."
Jenkins pointed out that the increase
in businesses will Increase the jobs and
payrolls available to Burleson
residents, thereby increasing the tax
revenue and continuing to broaden the
tax base. This will help Burleson
citizens from the standpoint of property
or ad valorem tax they have to pay to
sustain the quality of education and ser-
vices in the city.
“Burleson State Bank is continuing to
grow and serve the needs of the com
munity,” he said.
BILL SHAW, PRESIDENT of First
National Bank of Burleson, said they
feel very optimistic about the rest of
1983
"We're getting the economic
recovery we need, particularly in con-
struction and retail sales," he said
“Our growth will be accelerated by the
continued acceptance of the bank and
its services and the growth of the com
munity in the residential sector.”
Shaw said he expected Burleson to
move fairly quickly back to a posture of
rapid growth as it was before the reces-
sion
