The Dublin Citizen
Lions come
up on top in
new football
rankings
Texas Football Magazine hasn't
hit the stands , yet but apparently
that hasn't stopped the word from
trickling down that the Dublin
Lions have been picked to finish
first after a 5-0 district run in
1994
After a 1-4 start last year, it
appeared that Dublin would finish
somewhere in the middle of district
8-2A which was just where Texas
Football pegged them to finish.
The pre-season polls in 1994 didn't
list the L.ions. Tlie Fort Worth Star
Telegram thought so much of the
Lions, the newspaper didn't even
list the team in the league stand-
ings.
Athalon Magazine, which tradi-
tionally hits the area newsstands
two weeks before Texas Football,
has the Lions slated to finish
second in district. To go one
better, Athalon has the Cisco Lo-
boes ranked fifth in state despite
the fact that Cisco failed to make
the playoffs last season.
While the Lions have started
earning respect around the area,
the predictions lift them out of the
middle of the pack and into the
sights of their opponents.
“It’s nice to be read about but
we all know that football is de-
cided on the field. I guess being
truthful. I’d rather be ranked in the
middle but there's nothing we can
do about it except win football
games,” Blakley said.
As many as 90 players have
worked out in the off-season and
Blakley reports that many of the
Lions are taking their off-season
seriously.
When the Lions buckle on their
helmets for the start of the 1995
season, a new pressbox at Memo-
rial Stadium will greet them. The
two-story structure has metal inte-
rior work completed and wood
frame work and the installation of
windows is continuing this week.
“Isn't this great?” Blakley asks
as he points to the structure that
towers over the home crowd
stands. “We're going to be able to
take in the whole field from up
there.”

Little League All-Stars are waiting
on Arlington tournament brackets
Dublin Major and Minor league
All-Stars are busy preparing for
upcoming tournaments but at this
point, they don't know when they
will play in Arlington.
"They've been busy practicing
but they still haven't received a
bracket to find out when and where
they're going to play." Mark Stone
said.
For the major league, their tour-
nament could well lead them along
the path to the Little lutague
World Series The minor league
tournaments will give the younger
players the chance to gain experi-
ence for the time when they will
be making a World Series trek.
A three-day softball touniament
will get underway Friday to help
benefit Dublin's Little League. The
tournament format will include co-
ed. women and men s teams Cur-
rently six women's and co-ed
teams are registered with about a
dozen men's teams slated. Entry
fee for the tournament is $130.
According to Stone, there are
plans underway for Dublin to host
its own Little League All-Star
Tournament. No final plans have
been made because of the upcom-
ing tournament in Arlington
“We’re waiting to see the out-
come of the tournament in Arling-
ton before we carry everything
out," Stone said.
Editor's Note: All-Star uniforms
are expected to arrive by Friday
which has delayed a Major League
team picture until week after next.
(The Dublin Citizen does not pub-
lish a paper during the week of the
4th of July .)
Some football rankings have already been released and others, which are expected to be released
soon, have tabbed the Dublin Lions and Cisco Loboes as the district 8-2A favorites. Dublin was the
league champion in 1994 with the Loboes failing to make the playoffs. Citizen File Photo
