Melissa Kay Newman and Wil-
liam Jesse Beers, Jr. exchanged
wedding vows March 31 in the home
of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph C. Wheat of Bedford. Rev.
Howard Clark performed the 2 p.m.
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Sterling Jay Newman of
Burleson. The groom is the son of
William Jesse Beers, Sr. of Fort
Worth, and Mr. and Mrs. Jody
Dilbeck of Durant, Okla.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. She wore a tea-length
dress of satin and lace and fingertip
length lacc gloves. Her hair was
pulled up and accented with tiny
baby's breath.
The bride carried a bouquet of
red and white roses with greenery,
complimented with red and white
ribbon and pearls.
The bride's matron of honor was
Carla Coates. She wore a red, street-
length dress with pleated skirt
The best man was Kevin Coates.
The usher was Jay Newman, the
bride's brother.
Meredith Morey, the bride's
cousin, was the flower girl. She wore
a red dress with a white lace neckline
and white stockings covered with
tiny red hearts. She carried a white
basket decorated with red ribbon and
white roses filled with strawberry
potpourri.
The bride's mother wore a red
street-length dress. The groom's
mother wore a white street-length
dress. The women wore matching
corsages.
Chellc Newman, the bride's sis-
ter and Meghan Morey, the bride's
cousin, attended the guest book. The
guest book table also featured baby
pictures of the bride and groom and a
red crystal rose given as a present to
the bride from the groom
Denise Newman and Dana
Quick, sisters of the bride, served
cake and punch at the reception table.

Cavin celebrates 94 years

Mrs. Bessie Lee (Mamma)
Cavin celebrated her 94th birthday
on Sunday, April 1, 1990, at her
home with her daughter Jennie Mor-
ton. Four generations attended the
festivities, including two children,
fivegrandchik
children, and
children.
Guests were her son and
daughter-in-law Delmer and Rozelle
Cavin; grandson and family, Lloyd
and Terri Cavin, Ricci and David
Cavin, April and Chris Fulton; grand-
daughters Judy Hamilton and Mary
Maayeh and their father and step-
mother Otto and Laura Wentworth;
grandson Bill Morton, Jr.; grand-
daughter and family Virginia and
Glenn Shepherd and Shari Shepherd;
friends Patsy Shirley, Gary Shirley,
and Bobbie Bicknell; friends of great
granddaughter Shuri, Amanda But-
ler, Amanda Contreras and Wendy
Wolff, and Lucile Den Cleyker, Kate
Prunty, and Fern Bennett.
Cavin was bom in Bell County,
Texas, and has lived all of her life in
the state (With the exception of a few
months in'the mid 1950s when she
travelled in California with her
daughter Jennie and son-in-law Bill.)
Two of her sons, Delmer L.
(Butch) Cavin and Raymond C.
(Bub) Cavin, served in and survived
World War II. A fourth child, Marga-
ret Evelyn Wentworth is deceased.
Cavin started bowling when she
was 65 years of age and she continued
to bowl until her 84th year.
She contributes regularly to sen-
ior citizen craft affairs and averages
crocheting three afghans per month
during the winter.
Her life spans the inventions of
the horseless carriage, the airplane,
rural electrification, radio, zipper
closures, television, escalators, elec-
tronic computers, lunar travel, heart/
cataract surgery, and the discoveries
of nuclear power, liquified natural
gases, penicillin, the myocins, new
planets, climate conditioning and
over-the-counter analgesics and the
ravages of two World Wars, three
major U.S. conflicts and poliomyeli-
tis.
Library to
hold sale
The Burleson Public Library
wants your used books for an upcom-
ing sale.
Donations will be accepted at the
library through May 11, or by calling
295-6131. The sale will take place in
front of Wal-Mart on May 12.
Proceeds from the fundraiser
will be used to purchases microfiche/
microfilm reader/printer for the li-
brary. '
Five Generations Celebrate
Five generations of relatives helped Bessie (Mamma) Cavin celebrate her
94th birthday recently. They are (top photo) Cavin, Jennie Morton,
Virginia Shepherd, and Shari Shepherd; (bottom photo) Ricci Cavin,
Cavin, Del Cavin, David Cavin, and Lloyd Cavin.

Omega Delta convened
Omega Delta met at St Ann
Catholic Church on March 6. Mem-
bers discussed the Sock Hop that was
held at the church on April 7.
This is the fust year the mem-
b«|S hosted the event Proceeds will
be donated to RIF and DARE.
On March 10, Omega Delta met
at Linda Bartlett’s home. Elections
were held fix the 1990-91 year. The
new officers are: Juanita Combs,
president; Kathy Allen, vice presi-
dent; Deena Vines, recording secre-
tary; Barbara Thompson; Linda
Bartlett, corresponding secretary;
and Lydia Faulise, extension officer.
Members cadi brought a dish
from their heritage which ranged
form Italian, German, Indian, and
Filipino.
CWA meeting slated
The Cleburne Women Aglow
meeting will be held Thursday, April
12,7-9 p.m. The new meeting place
is in Walls Regional Hospital's base-
ment level conference room.
Mary Kilmer of Belton will be
the speaker. Ireland-bom, New Jer-
sey-raised Kilmer has been actively
involved in Aglow for 15 years and
has held several different offices.

The bride is a 1984 graduate of
Burleson High School and also at-
tended Tarrant County Junior Col-
lege. The groom attended Richland
High School.
The bride is employed by Scien-
tific and Industrial Sales and Service
in Fort Worth. The groom is em-
ployed with Airborne Express at
DFW Airport.
After a honeymoon trip to San
Antonio the couple is living in
Bedford.
