Dunaway is UBA Member of the Year
At the recent United Bass Asso-
ciation of Burleson Christmas party,
the 2-year old organization closed
out what can best be described as a
banner year. In only its second year
of operation and with over 85 mem-
bers, the UBA is the largest group of
its kind in the Burleson area. The
organization also averaged 42 an-
glers per tournament this year.
One of the many highlights this
year in the UBA was. the annual
youth event in which the kids are
treated to their very own fishing tour-
nament, complete with prizes and a
hot dog lunch. Over 50.young anglers
competed this year in the event and
every child received a prize and a
trophy. The event was held at a pri-
vate farm pond ani every child
caught at least one fish.
UBA piember W. F. Dunaway
summed it up best, "This is what it is
all about, spending quality family
time with your kids and teaching
them about the outdoors and our
fragile environment. Every parent
and grandparent owes it to die youth
of today, and it is their responsibility
to pass on a love and respect of the
outdoors and its creatures to the fu-
ture generations. There is no better
way to accomplish this than to take a
kid Ashing."
The Anal tabulations are in for
the 1992 season and in the hody
contested "Angler of the Year" race,
Fort Worth's Jesse Robles edged out
Burleson's George Roberts for the
tide. Robles weighed in over 37
pounds of bass this year to claim the
victory and was presented with a ni ce
embroidered jacket. In the "Junior
Angler of the Year" category, de-
fending champ Toby Moore of
Burleson proved just why he was the
1991 winner by successfully win-
ning the 1992 award also. Moore
won a nice rod and reel combo worth
over $75 and a plaque for the honor.
At the recent UBA Year End
Classic, at Richland-Chambers Res-
ervoir, Dan Lindsey of Pilot Point
blew away the Aeldof 37 anglers and
won the championship by tipping the
scales with a three-bass limit weigh-
ing 17.30 lbs. Lindsey also won die
big bass pot in the event with his 7.34
lb. lunker. His total winnings totaled

Last year she was selected as the
county's delegate to the Texas 4-H.

the law making process for the club,
just as the Texas House and Senate
does for the state. Delegates were
placed on committees as members of
the House or Senate and then they
voted on the bills that were voted out
of committees. Bradley has also
qualiAed for district fashion revue
and the district foods show. On the
state level, she was seventh with her
state method demonstration entitled,
"A Walk in the Spotlight" She is

Far and away, the most coveted
award that is bestowed upon any
member of the UBA is the "Member
of the Year" award. This award is
presented to the individual who the
membership feels has been the best at
working to improve the UBA and
promoting healthy competition and
respect for the outdoors. This year's
award went to Dunaway for his tire-
less devotion and hard work and
every person in attendance seemed
equally as thrilled to see "Papa" (as
he is affectionately called) receive a
nice rod and reel combo and plaque
("Congratulations Papa, you cer-
tainly deserve it").
Closing out this year, the mem-
bership of the UBA had $400 to
spend on a Christmas party for the
members, but instead of spending
these funds on a party, Pat Birdwell
of Crowley had the idea of sponsor-
ing some needy families through the
"Christmas Angel" program of the
Harvest House in Burleson. The
UBA members overwhelmingly
agreed and so the money was spent
on the program. Because of this,
seven children will receive clothes,
coats, shoes, and some nice gifts this
Christmas. Thanks to Kelli and
Randy Hudgins of Burleson for se-
curing some nice gifts with the UBA
money for the Harvest House and to
Pat Birdwell for coming up with the
idea. It appears that the UBA will
make this a yearly program, as work
has already begun in hopes of having
even more money to spend on the
kids for next year.
The 1993 season in the UBA
starts upon Tuesday, Jan. 5, at7 p.m.
at the American Legion Post 549 in
Burleson. The public is invited to
attend. Meetings are held the Arst
Tuesday of every month and tourna-
ments are held the following Sunday.
Incoming President Bruce Rasco
will preside over the association for j
1993. For more information con-
cerning the UBA, call 295-2202,
297-1787, or 295-2941.
