City ordinance would

Pearson defends

By SALLY ELLERTSON
Burleton Star Managing Editor
An ordinance regulating
roller skaters, bladers, and
skateboarders in the Old Town
of Burleson passed the first
hurdle Thursday night
—Burleson City Council-
members OK’d an ordinance
that would prohibit all three on
the sidewalks in the area of
Burleson bounded by Renfro,
Main, and Bufford streets and
Johnson Avenue.
Councilmember Jim Bailey,
who is also a businessowner in
the old town area, suggested two
changes to the ordinance before
it was passed. “Roller blades”
had been dropped from one
paragraph and then added, and
“streets" was taken out, elimi-
nating regulation of skaters on
the streets in old town
“If businesses have no prob-
lem with them (skaters, roller
bladers, and skateboarders).
that’s fine, but we are getting
more walking traffic down there
and the handicapped ramps are
very inviting," Bailey said.
Councilmember Todd
Pearson said he wouldn’t vote
against the ordinance, but that
ue thought it should cover more
man one area.
“I just don’t think it (ordi-
nance) goes far enough. I think
it (restrictions) ought to be in all
commercial areas We don’t
need children playing in these
areas It’s dangerous," Pearson
said

In that story, city attorneys

Patrick Michael Murray, 25,

County jail in Knoxville, lVnn ,
since Aug 11, charged with first
degree murder in the death of

On Oct 19, the Knox

Mauri's letter, in part, said,
"I have never been around any
one who is as detrimental to
morale or who can destroy an

vironment as Harvey High

Pearson said if a former pa-
rishioner of a local minister

about that minister, “it wouldn't

“Then' was no reason for it
(letter) It didn’t accomplish
anything. I am personally quite
pleased with what Chief High-
tower has done I could care less

Pearson said
Pearson went on to say that
