Sesqaiceotennial Year of Texas.
The official proclamation reads:
On Jdy 4. 1145. President An-
son Jones of Texas called a con-
vention in Aastin to present Tex-
ans the choice between condoning
as a republic with Mexican recog-
nition or being annexed to the
United States.
The convention ratified the joint
resolution of the United States
Congress for annexation and pro-
ceeded to write a constitution for

On December 29, 1845, the
Congress of the United States
voted to accept Texas as the 28th
state of the union with the consti-
tution which the people had writ-

Dr. Chuck Biscoe of Snyder and Ms. Cecilee Taylor of Corsicana
announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their
daughter, Nancy Biscoe of Tyler to Randall Johnson, son of Jim and
Welda Johnson of Dublin. The bride-elect is a graduate of Kerens
High School and is employed by Bank One in Corsicana. The
prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Dublin High School and
Tarleton State University. He is food store manager at Super K-Mart
in Corsicana. The wedding will be March 30 at First Baptist Church
in Dublin. Friends and relatives are invited.
Yantis honored by Kiwanians
Dick Yantis has been named a
George F. Hixon Fellow of Kiwa-
nis International.
The honor, the highest given in
the Kiwanis organization, was an-
nounced in December by the Ar-
lington Kiwanis Chib where Yantis
has been a member 23 years.
The Hixon award honors a Kiwa-
nian in whose name $1,000 has
’ been contributed by club presidents
and members toward a worldwide
service project.
Kiwanis International has
adopted a goal of worldwide elimi-
nation of iodine deficiency disor-
ders (IDD), the most prevalent,
preventable cause of mental and
physical retardation in the world
today, according to Roger Moore,
Kiwanis* honorary project chair-
man.
The Texas-Oklaboma Kiwanians
have a goal of $10 million over the

versity of Texas at Arlington, and
